The mother of all topsheets

For anyone who is asking what topsheet to use on a box, we finally found what they use at resorts, UHMW (ultra high molecular h..?) its also called polyethelene. Basically, its that white stuff that resorts use. We bought a 4ft. by 10ft sheet for 140 dollars and we're putting it on our 12 foot box tomorrow, i have no doubts that it will slide like a champ, ill post some pics and a vid of the finished box tomorrow.

I built a box and put lexan on the top...it cracked like mad when I screwed it down...I predrilled and countersunk and still it cracked...ohwell it still works and hasn't falled apart yet...they need to make sheets of self lubricating delrin like they use in the bolts of paintball guns...it is impregnated with like teflon and it is really tough...not sure if it comes in sheets though

UHMW (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethelene) is the surface used by most resorts for boxes and works amazingly well because of its high wear resistance and low coeficient of friction. It can be expensive, but it depends how and where you buy it. I use it for slide gloves for longboarding and get it free by going to an industial plastic supply place and asking for scraps. A big sheet would probably be expensive, though.

"now I'm never touching the stuff." refering to UHMW on skate components.
My question is why? You are doing the same thing as skaters on rails anyway, and often, it looks better on skates.
Did you read too may Transworld Skateboarding issues or something?

you want to know how to surface a box for cheaper? it will be skinnier, but go buy some polyethelyne cutting boards. you can get them for like 3 bucks at ikea. I bought some of those skinny ass ones from smart and final last year when the road to the mountian was closed, we started making a box at 12pm, and we were sliding it with those as a topsheet by 5:30

i tried to make a rail out of 2x4 and plexiglass once... it would have worked if i had enough plexiglass haha. i just used the wood to slide.

you, and everyone else who said there a better options , can fuck off.
This shit is the best and the main reason we spent so muc his that it was split between 6 people, thats like 25 dollars each, i think i can afford it.
Everyone who is saying use lexan since its cheaper, lexan is around 100 dollars and it comes in 3x6 foot sheets from hardware stores; we got a 4x10 foot sheet from a local industrial plastics company.
So keep telling us how its a waste of money

that fake wood stuff works too, the stuff that they use for decks a lot now, just make the top out of that like two 3x6's together it works well

agreed. skaters often have way better style and look more in control. not to say it looks shitty on skis, because it doesn't, i just think skaters have the ability to be a lot more creative with how they slide than skiers, so it often looks cooler.

thats pricey, but will make a sick box, its nice to see people do something that like quality, you should try to make like dfd with that, I mean if you made the box like a foot wide you could have like 40 ft of material. Where di you order it from?

yeah once we are going to build a flat down or flat down flat after we get some good use out of this one, we screwed the uhmw on today and hitting the box tomorrow we'll have some pics up.
I got it from a local industrial plastic company, didnt even have to order it just called them and picked it up

yeah that lexan shit, the sides crack and were off easy, so next time were going to put coping on the sides of our box and that should prevent that. our box is dope thogh we have 2 eight ft long ones so we make gaps or just a 16 ft long box, we hit it monday it was off the hook.
