My friend is going to help me make a "sponsor me" video this season, any suggestions on format, tricks to include, amount of rail vs. jump, park vs. backcountry?
how bout you go out, and ski and have fun! that simple...dont go in the wrong direction man, focus on having fun, and if u get sponsored it happens! dont try and force it, if u do, skiing loses its fun!
exactly man ski for the fun of it not for the image you try to make for yourself by getting sponsered .. the kids that get sponsered and make it big are the ones that are out there every day that they can just havin fun and pushing themselves.
^amen, better words than i could ever put it in! i mean yea they make videos but its still all in fun...if you try to set out an itinerary of skiing, its gonna start to suck...trust me!
First and foremost, just get out there and have fun...skiing is not about getting sponsored!
But if you are trying:
DVD format, there is no percentage of one thing versus another that will get you sponsored. Focus on being well rounded, having fun, and show some personality in there. There are plenty of people deserving sponsorship based on skills alone, but the personality has to be there too!
Thanks for the advice. It really is about the fun for me, that's why I love it so much. It would just be nice to have some help. It's killing me trying to replace my broken gear all the time.
for sure dude, but still dont really try to get sponsored, half the fun is struggling to make it, and stuff! its great when your skis and shit are worth more than your car!
Just have a smooth bag of tricks, try to film like entire runs in the park with your biggest tricks in succession, then hit some big mountain if thats availoable to you and urban stuff, try to hit all the most important areas. The biggest thing is just make sure what you put in is really good, no filler stuff. And try to think originally Trying to get sponsored is funh to me, tryin to link stuff together, and impress someone, its a challenge, and I ski for the challenge so.
Dont listen to the just go out and have fun crappola....if you want to be sponsored, not just free ski and t-shirt sponsorship but the real deal a-team stuff...then you gotta pursue it hard!
Resume - Clean, clear, concise
Contest results - Show em your the king shit...if you dont have any, make some up...ex. 1st Place McFatty's Rail Jam
Photo Portfolio - What ads have you been in? Media? TV, Newspapers? Hype it up, even if it was a token shot on your local station
Sponsor Me Video - Maybe tie all the above together into one DVD and send EVERYONE your shit....specifically local sales reps!! They love recieving sponsor me videos, they are fun to tape over with porn.
Here's how sponsorship works. The people who run a company want people to see and buy their products. So they look for the people who are getting noticed, which isn't to hard because they probably notice that person, duh. Then they send a company rep to attempt to get the person to sponsor the company (not the other way around). If the skier agrees then the company gives them $$$ and free skis, and the skier promots that and only that company.
So... companies won't give you free skis because you break them. They give you them because your a good way to promote the product.
If youre not havingfun to ski, why do it?
I,mhaving fun toski, that's why I ski, ifIwould not have fun skiing, Iwouldstop skiing. BUT getting sponsored helpyou such muc. I usually break at least one or two pair of skis per year trying to make the sport progress at the same time I'm going to university since I know I cant live on freeskiing for my whole life. Do you think I can support the 1500$ of ski equipment each year and buy a ski pass while paying 10 000$ togoto school?
If your talkin about local shop sponsorships all you need to do is win some comps at your local hill and you will have shops head over heals to get you to represent them. anything bigger than that and i dunno
