where in the hell do i get them? i have heard that they are about the best binding you can get for backcountry and freeride, but i can't find them anywhere!
they're good bindings, but not the "best". every binding at that DIN level is going to do the same thing- hold you in and never let go. the 916 is often looked at as one of the better bindings because of how long they're known to last. i have a pair on my Seth Pistols and got them from the local rep. i've crashed plenty of times on them, many of those times very hard, but i've only released once. they're good for backcountry because you won't be searching for a lost ski, but the same could be said about any high-DIN binding system.
the 9-14 and 9-16 are both made of METAL. not that little peices of plastic the 9-12.
and there better then tyrolla and atomic and rossi(look) and 4frnt(rossi) and marker and all the rest because they have adjustable toe peices, up and down(for worn out boots) and the wings come in.
not so good for backcountry though unless your using the pocket copter (treckers)
hah, i knew that was gonna happen. i don't really know anything about salomon bindings, so i was just kinda going with what seemed the most obvious. i take it that they still make them? why wouldn't it be listed then?
they aren't in very high demand. thats why you rarely, if ever, see them in shops, but they are pretty much bomb-proof. If you ask nicely they will order them for you. or even 920s if you like.
s916s are dope bindings, one of the best in the world. That is all that matters. They are not that hard to get, only expensive. Many big online ski sites even carry them. If you have the funds and are big enough to require a higher din then they are worth the investment. This has been discussed many times now.
If you don't know something don't post. seriously. you make yourselves just sound retarded.
the 916 hasn't been on their site for a few years. did you know that there are other websites on the internet that are ski-related? did you know that many of them are retailers (they sell ski gear)? look at those.
i work in a shop, i didn't see them in the catalog, and i couldn't get ahold of the rep, so i wasn't sure what the deal was. with the exception of a few shit talking posts, you have all been very helpful, thank you!
way to hate on me for making a logical assumption. i'll admit that i probably spoke too soon though. but, maybe you guys could teach us "retards" something without being so condescending. i'd love to learn anything about ski equipment that i can. however, that doesn't really work when you assholes automatically deem people who aren't in the know as stupid.
they are on salomon's canadian page. its a different toe than the spheric oversize toe they use on the 810, 912, and 914. the wings are a little more compact, obviously it has a higher din, and the construction is much more solid.
Best answer I've heard yet. But if you do decide you need them you have to talk to your local Salomon sales rep.....or have your Salomon shop order them for you. They are very expensive and VERY VERY heavy. But they don't break.
The S916 uses a 2 screw wing adjustment carried over from the old S900 Race series. Bottom line: they won't back off, due to vibration, like the single screw 912 and 914.
you're a retard if you don't use google or something like it to find the info you're looking for. there are plenty of sites out there that review products that should give you a pretty good idea of how the binding stacks up against others, what its strengths are, and what its weaknesses are.
look in Powder's gear guide on page 106. there's a brief rundown of the binding along with a handful of other bindings (turns out the Rossi/Look pivot system lives on).
s916 are the best bindings in my opinion, unlike the s914 and s912 they have a steel heel plate which wont break, they are better than rossi and look because u wont get fucked up the ass when u over shoot, but i have never tried tyrolia, and markers are plastic
i usually get s912 ti's and that damn plastic part always cracks...so thats sick that the 916's are metal, i will definitely be talking to the salomon rep about gettin a set.
they are one of the best binings for big mountain and freeskiing but they are quite hard to find i think they are maoinly just made for the pros however you shood be able to order them from salomon if you call them and ask about them if u are actually interested in purchasing them
