NO! Don't even try. The pass is notorious for suckering in people and then breaking legs, blowing out knees because it LOOKS like there is enough snow, but there really isn't.
Wait until the next big storm. This one won't put down enough of a base to cover all the rocks, stumps, logs, boulders, deadfall, downed limbs, etc, etc, etc. . .
^well if u look at the date this thread was started, u'd c that u guys r talkin about the same snowfall, so like the dude said b4, DONT GO YET. just chill, uve waited all summer 2 ski, one-two more weeks wont hurt as much as a torn acl...
You guys may be thinking of the bottom part, but I would guess that for sure the top of the pass is legit. a 15-20 min hike out and up is probably pretty sick
i skied the pass today and it pretty much was an awesome time. yes i did hit rocks, but it was way better than paying for a ticket to loveland. we also built a pretty sick jump which was mad fun. also, after a 20 or so minute hike out, the snow quality was pretty darn good.
we did a few different things... hiked up the side you park your car on and then later, a 20 or so minute hike up on the side the stairs are on and built a jump in some area where there were huge snow drifts. went back to it this afternoon and it was sweet.
^^haha its totally worth it, i live in the springs and drove up both days! it just depends on your attitude, and how much you love the sport! loveland, is sick and abasin opens friday!
It may have been better than paying (and I hate to pay as much as you do, for sure), but you haven't skied up there (or in Colorado) very much if you think the "snow quality was pretty darn good."
There is no base. Just a foot or so of snow on top of rocks.
Sure, there may be areas where it has drifted deeper (where you built your jump), but until there is a base you are asking for it.
20 minute hike out? That says it all. You're supposed to ski out, not hike out!
actually where we built the jump, there were no rocks. the landing was incredibly soft. and i do ski a lot in colorado. elsewhere, there was no base. but where we built the jump, there was plenty of base. clearly the snow wasn't the lightest powder ever or anything and yes it did get heavy by the end of the day, but it was still good, especially early in the day.
and the 20 minute hike out was hiking up the ridge and traversing over to the spot we wanted. at no point in the year would you be able to just ski to it.
i'm sorry you don't believe anything i am saying. but i do have pictures. feel free to message me if you would like to see them.
Wow Mr. Winter, you surprise me. For an old man, you sure do come on here and talk a lot of immature shit. You do realize that she's a contributing photographer for freeskier.com right? The same magazine you work for. Try and act a little more professional, I'd hate to see your reputation damaged. Prick.
