yeah i have. there was this one blind kid who was throwing cork 9s off the 40 footer at this mountain, he said he just feels when hes at the top of the lip and throws it hard. But he says its scary as fuck cause he cant spot landings
As a matter of fact, i saw one on tv. The guy didn't do much more than the bunny hill, but he had a guy that skiied behind him and gave him commands on when to turn and stop. It was a show about how people learn to overcome disabilities. Wish i could remember the name and what channel though.
ive seen a bunch at mammoth. they always have all kinds of disabled people skiing here. i see people charging litte 10 foot jumps in the park on sitskis every year.
ok, funnest thing ever ! start riding switch down a hill, go really fast, and start screaming HELP HELP IM BLIND IM BLIND ! And people like ! throw themseves infront of you to make you stop ! and then they start bleeding ! its great !
I've seen them a lot, with guide,
but once I saw a blind guy with his guide dog in the supermarket shopping for food. Who decides what to eat the dog or him?
i saw blind skiing at the paralympics on tv-basically they snowplow & theres a guy in front yelling & they follow him.
being the guide would be the easiest way to get into the olympics (getting a good partner would be hard though)
I think it is great personally. If I went blind I would still ski...it would suck being stuck above tree line or on groomers all day...there is no way you could ski the mogs or trees...going off of a jump would be fun...but you would have to start really small and just straight air.
i saw a blind skier hit a tree once at sugarbush a couple of seasons ago. it fun and wrong at the same time. then later that day i was on the bus. Someone was crying on the bus and turn out to be the dude wife.
hahaha im defiantly gona do that this year... I just gotta get one of those BLIND SKIER vests and start bombing switch under the chairlift and start screaming
At Kimberley in BC I've seen quite a few, they are pretty crazy too because they have to rely on their guide on where to turn and stuff like that. I don't know if skiing would be as enjoyable without being able to see where you are going.
I teach adaptive skiing at my mountain, and sometimes i will throw on a blind skiier bib and pretend like a "guide" is lining me up for a rail and then after sliding it i will run it to some gaper or into a fence or somthing, its pretty fun.
The funniest thong about blind skiers is when they're are getting on the chair lift. They look so dumb with their hands ''looking'' for the chair and they get hit everytime by it. So cool
i have seen races on tv with them, not the special olympics either. they have a guide that has a radio in his helmet that is forwarded to the skier and then they turn. they have to have real good communication skills. they are at my hill almost every other week, they wear bright vests that say blind skier.
