For a ski vacation in march im goin out west (im from the east), not sure wat place to go. i checked out the freeskier magazine on the top 10 ski resorts. we want somethign that has all around, sick mt and other things to do besides skiing. also want parks, bowls, and all mountain. im likcing whistler, mammouth, and aspen. need some help
if you can afford it, i would go to aspen. whistler would be good to but ive never been there so i dont know. if you dont have as much to spend check out summit county. its close to quite a few areas.
All those places are sick, its all just about personal preference. i can gurantee whatever place you go to you will have a good time. Out of the places you mentioned. places like vail will most likely have the least snow considering the past few years.
it's typically either raining or atleast wet snow at the bottom, but you spend all of your day at a much higher elevation where the weather is usually better and so is the snow
there is a big difference between skiing in tahoe and in co or utah.
the snow in utah is so much lighter and fluffier (is that even a word?) than in tahoe. you will find "sierra cement", as we call it, in tahoe. that is not a bad thing, it is just heavier snow (I heard it is because the sierra's take the moisture out of the snow and what falls in utah is just like powdered sugar). but not as heavy as say, washington state. I have never skied in the the eastern US so I can't compare. anywho, if you come to tahoe, squaw is a must. but it is not a beginners mountain. Northstar is fun, but a little flat. but they have a new 'village' going up so it will be super nice, assuming they finish before the season. I have a pass to northstar, because I have a place there and my wife is a beginner/intermediate skier so it is perfect for her. if you stay on the north shore, you can ski, northstar, squaw, alpine, pretty easiler. heavanly would a trek from the north shore as it is located in the south shore (about 40 minutes during the summar with no traffic). kirkwood has the best snow in tahoe, but it is about 1 hour south of south shore...and not much to do around there.
Whistler is unbelievable, but I haven't been there in a few years and I hear it is getting very commerical and expensive. Utah would probably be my first choice, because you get to ski a lot of different mountains with ideal conditions.
it rained some last year but that year sucked normally not like that. and whistler is so well rounded bowls everywhere parks all over groomers whatever you want whistler has.and even if it is raining there is so much mtn you can just ski higher up and still have a great time.
Go with the north shore for sure. You can spend your time between Northstar, Alpine, and Squaw. If you want park Northstar has the best one in Tahoe. And for everything else you can go to Alpine or Squaw. Alpine is like a much more laid back version of Squaw without all the rich ass douches stolling around like they own the place. Also in March you might just get lucky and get dumped on. Tahoe always seems to get a storm in mid to late march. Last year we got 6 feet over the course of 5 days that started on like the 18th.
we kinda want one mts that has everything - bowls, park, regular stuff, resturants, (shops for the moms). cuz im goin with 3 other families so we gotta decide soon on where to go. i really want to go to whistler. so wat are some good reasons to go, cuz everyones being gay about how the weather is always bad and it will take forever to get there from ct. some want to go to steamboat or park city/deer valley. but i want to go to whistler cuz i heard its mad good
last year march and april were the best i got a 43 cm day in april and normally march is some of the best skiing all year round. plus there is so much to do at night and i dont no if you have seen the trail map but go look at it its huge they have everything. the people bitvhing bout the rain r the ones that havnt been there wishing they could go but they cant. if it rains its in the village and there is a 5000 foot differance between them so dont worry bout it it will be a great vacation come on over.
i would go to aspen four mts one ticket more partying and night life than anywhere (whistler could compare) but aspen is where u should go its not crowded and has killer parks and dope bowls and steeps and awesome backcountry.
im going wtih mckay. its 3 or 4 families so we need a place to ditch the bitches when we are skiing, but a place that compares (or at least almost) to jackson hole. i was told the park city area because its close to alta, but whats the scene or crested butte, snowmass, big sky, etc? try to not suggest something mad far since my dad used to be a trucker and hates flying cuz it scares the shit out of him. the less time on the plane the less misery for us all.
dude, all these resorts everyone has said are great for everything, the best bet is the tahoe area cuz u got like 20 resorts in north tahoe that have everything, boreal = all-mountain park plus night skiing in the park, alpine and squaw = with a big park with incredible backcountry, and so many other choices
Whistler is going to be bad or great it is eather raining or snowing like the rest of the west coast. I think Alta/Snowbird would be great for you though but it all depends on where the snow is at.
there's nothing to do in mammoth besides ski. seriously.
i would say go to aspen if you can afford it. it's definitely going to be the priciest, but worth it. they have great snow which makes for great skiing, and is supposed to be one of the biggest party towns in the us. i'm sure youc an find some hot slutty bitches.
When i went to whistler, it was blue sky without any clouds what so ever for the entire time i was there, but then when i went there for summer camp, it rained and snowed.... sooo. and when i was there if february, it was spring conditions, but last year was a weird bad one, so hard to say
Yeah man Whistler isnt to far from the airport. And it's just a sick place to be, at night in the village the clubs are rocking, and it's got such a good party atmosphere. I would go to Whistler if I were you, it's going to be a good season
Uhh Aspen sucks unless you are a beginner, why would you ski there unless they have a decent park, or to party. Whistler for sure, chance of it raining to the peaks in February are low. At Whistler you don't ski the lower half of the mountains except at the end of the day to get to the base. The good terrain is all in the upper half (trees then bowls/alpine). Last two times I was in Whistler for a week, the first time it snowed most of the week, some rain at the bottom, one bluebird powder day, the other time it was sunny and warm the entire week (first week of February), everything was soft and open, it was awesome.
Snowbird/Alta, Jackson Hole, Northshore Tahoe (ignore the moron talking about Heavenly, Squaw is where you want to be) are other good choices. Not sure why you'd think about Vail, it sucks.
