N.B. rips, there's no question about that. He doesn't have a garage full of Line skis, though.
The point here is not that N.B. is gay for doing that trick.
The image was created by Vail during one of their photo shoots with their staff photographer to represent what the Vail Marketing goons think is cool and edgy.
Don't hate N.B. for being the skier in the shot. He's out there as a sponsored athlete giving them what they (Vail) want. For everyone who has never been on a photo shoot it's called work. Creating images like this for a sponsor is merely doing your job. As distasteful as that may be. Trust me, I know that athlete and know what he thinks. . .
Nope, hate Vail for insisting that this kind of imagery is an appropriate representation of our sport. That's what's fucked up here! Until companies like Vail get it (hey, they do host the US Open so there is hope), the images of skiing that we see in major marketing campaigns may not be what they should be. Vail blew it this time and, unfortunately, I don't think they'll do better next year either.

Some good points there. As you and someone else mentioned, it probably wasn't his call and I'm sure the final picture was selected by someone who skis 10 days a year, if they're lucky.
Vail is in a loose/loose situation with something like this. They want to try to appear to be edgy, progressive and cool by publishing a photo like that, but at the same time they don't want to scare away the families that pay the bills. Some Dad in New Jersey is probably looking at that photo and saying "crap, I hope that guy doesn't land on my kid, maybe we should go to Keystone, where everything is flat, safe and lame."
I'm not trying to defend his style or choice of tricks, I'm just sick of all the little shits around here who criticize people like N.B. or Sage for doing ads and commercials.
Maybe someday when they get off the Mom and Dad sponsorship plan they will figure out that you have to pay the bills somehow, and if you can get paid to ski, more power to ya.

I just read though the entire thread again and I couldn't see anywhere where somebody called him a sellout (correct me if I'm wrong)...but since you seem to know him so well and are bringing it up, are you suggesting that he is a sell out?
Riding for a company/mountain is obviously not selling out, it's figuring out how to ski for a living by being good enough. If you want to ski for a living, you have to do what those companies want you to do, usually photoshoots, competitions, and video parts.
You obviously have a good opinion of this picture as do I because I know I'm not creative enough with grabbing to come up with that grab, but
1) don't get angry over something that nobody but yourself has said.
2) you probably shouldn't take anything said on this site too seriously, because if you've ever looked at any of the pictures on this site that people upload, kids tear each other apart for having "gay pants" for example, when the kid is cleaning the craziest urban rail you and I have ever seen.
If that picture is really you (since you are defending it so much) then sick, and if not then chill out.

My name is Noah Brooks. I guess I am your so called "Vail double grab mystery man" For those who like this trick and those who don't it has been a trick that I have been doing since 1998 and I still think it looks cool. I might not be as new school as you many of you but I'm still out there skiing for a living and I'll keep on going until photographers don't want to take my picture!
I agree with most of you though, the national add vail ran is kind of out of date, but Vail isn't marketing to just us ski bumbs. Im stoked to be in the add none-the-less. It is also true that Vail would not let me spin off axis or flip. I would have loved to throw down of this jump, but when your working for the man you can only ask how high to jump!
In respect to the pic, I might add that I was about 50 feet up and landing in waste high powder! Like it or not it was the best 6 AM skiing I've had in a long time. I challenge all of you to give this trick a try whether it is gay or not it is a good trick for still photography!

Come on out to Vail buddy. The jump sits on top of a 15 foot cornice. We had a 6 foot jump on top of it and it drops at about a 38 degree angle! Those who have been there know exactly what I'm talking about. Where are you from, what do you do for a living? You're probably on a mom and dad sponsorship, huh? Guys like you give this sport a bad name. You must have never shot before for a commercial or advertisement for a ski area, cause marketing departments have their layout before the photo is even taken. I don't compete any longer, but come out here let one of my athletes like John Spriggs, Junior Martinez, Tony Seibert, Taylor Seaton, and Olivia Bouvier kick your ass in the Open, and then we'll go ski in the backcountry and I'll let some chute slide on your ass and watch you get your shit eaten up while I sit there laughing. This site is funny! Matt Harvey told me to check it out, its cool except for the fuck ups like yourself that talk about shit they've got no idea about.
