I want to buy a digital camera, and I am unsure of what to get. I am a bigginer at photography.
I am probably going to bring it to the hill alot to take pics.
Does someone make a waterproof camera?
I dont know, it needs to have a vid mode and shit, and I am probably willing to pay from 300 to 600$ cad
Opinions please!

i have one to sell but it doesn't have video mode. the video ones take bad pictures u need alot of megapixels to get a good pic from a vid and photo cam so get one that is good for one thing

I've been using the Pentax Optio S5i. Its 5 megapixels, has unlimited video recording time (I get about 90 minutes on my 1GB card) and fits in an altoids tin. Its not waterproof but I haven't needed it. I just pack it in the tin and put er in my pocket. Its a sick camera and everyone who sees it coming out of the tin thinks its awesome. I can't go anywhere without people making comments. I like taking it skiing cause its so small and its really versatile. it even has a "surf and snow" setting for taking shots at the hill.
Let me know if you have questions about it that you can't google, or even if you're interested in buying mine.
Cheers
David

Yeah i was told by a few photographers to invest in a Digital SLR too. I was thinking between the Fuji FinePix S3000 and the Fuji FinePix S602. I think these are the best value for the money (between $200 and $300) but i dont have much experience with SLR's. Has anyone ever had these camera's, and do they work well?

the sony cybershot DSCP...uhh 400? i think.
its nice. most cameras made in the last year will be pretty nice, if you are willing to spend 4 or 5 hundred.

Neither of those are true Digital SLRs. Rather that seeing through the lens in real-time like a real DSLR, it has a tiny LCD screen inside the viewfinder you look at, just like a video camera. Still better than a camera using a seperate viewfinder, but you may be squinting a bit.
s602z is a nice camera though, I took like 3 pics with one of them once.
As for what camera to get, don't get a DSLR if you're a beginner. 1 - no video mode. 2 - you need to know how to use it. 3 - if you can't use it your pics will be horrible.
I say for for a Pentax Optio WR-series camera. I don't know the numbers for the new ones, but you get 640x480 video, good image quality, waterproof up to 3 feet or so, and it's very small so you can fit it in your pocket no problem.

digital slr and slr are both really nice,
i have a nikon n80 its a pretty nice camera, takes amazing shots(dont skimp on the glass) and cost around 500 setup with a sick sigma zoom lense. btu i would recomend digital slr. although it will cost you more, around agrand, itll even out in the end. Photopaper, dark room access and Film add up. My friend has a digital and he has shot around 7000 pics in under a year. ive shot like a a 10th that.thatsa a lot of money. you will get better at taking photos. although for pure aescetics i likefilm better

AS far as digitals go I have a Canon SD 500 and it dope as fuck. Great shots, 7 megapixels, starts up fast and has ok motor drive for a digital.
If you want to take the best shots go with film. my Nikon N70 does great.
