vid to computer

me and my friends are starting to put our footage on the comp. but we're running out of space fast on my friends computer. is there anyway to compress it, or reformat so we can fit alot of footage on the computer?

Well, first off, you could tell everyone what format its in so we'll know. Id advise not doing any of that crap like compressing it tho. Go out to a cheapo computer store and but yourself a larger hard drive. anything over 40 GB and you'll be fine unless your filming a unformated 5 hour ski movie.

right click on my computer and there will be a box that says compress this drive or something like that (thats with xp and 2000 and maybe nt 4.0) i know you can also compress fat16 but im not sure about fat32. 80 gig hard drives look like the best value now, if you buy a new hard drive its nice to have hard drives on its own controller to speed up things. or if you really want performance you could set up a raid array.

DONT COMPRESS YOUR HARDDRIVE... im telling you RIGHT NOW, ,dont do it. IT will KILL any preformance you had in your computer, and it wont even create that much free space. Just go buy a cheap 5400rpm 20gig harddrive or something, hell, theres a sale at CompUSA right now for 120 gig HDD's for like 100 bucks.

Just get away from Avi files as soon as you can, they are huge! awesome quality, but if youd dont need the quality go to MPEG
