for those who know who he is, let me know your thoughts. personally i feel like he's one of the best songwriters of our generation. one of the saddest days in music for me when he died. for those who dont know who he is, check him out. guaranteed he's gonna get plenty of hate because of how different it is, but im just crediting him with how much he's done and how amazing he was when he was around.
wow there have been alot of posts about elliott these days, he is by far the best singer/songwriter of the past 20 or so years. i listen to his music no stop it is the most amazing thing ever. its a huge tragedy that he died, and speaking of which, for you people who know about him and his music and life, do you think it was suicide or his girlfriend?
^ i think i'm goign to stick with suicide. although it is questionable considering how he did it, i think he was far too nice of a person to have enemies like that. his music was dismal and even haunting at times. it wasnt sad lyricly, it was something that could definitely only come from his own experiences. he certainly seemed to have suicidal thoughts before he died, which can be seen through his music. oddly enough, however, it seems that his most upbeat music was his most recently written stuff. from a basement on a hill is a much more involved, more upbeat album, and most of the songs were recorded just before his death. although i get chills each time i listen to fond farewell...it seems to be his musical suicide note. its not necessarily a sad song, but the message for those who knew about him is depressing after what happened.
yea fond farwell is definately like a suicidal note in a song. i love that song though. i've been listening to figure 8 a lot lately, and it sucks knowing there won't be any more music by him
I can't remember the story exactly, but I heard that his family put together the songs they used for Basement, and all his friends and peers said he had other more depressing songs that he actually wanted to use on the album, so hopefully those come out sometime.
coast to coast is a really good song, sort of beatles srgt pepper days feel to it.
but the song i like the most is ballad of big nothing.
every single song he does has something to do with substance abuse and alcohol addiction. although he doesn't directly say it, thats what he means. just listen to ballad of big nothing for example that whole entire song is about a junkie.
