Does wearing a hat under a helmet make it less effective?

im pretty sure i've heard that, but it seems like it wouldn't matter if the helmet fit really snugly over the hat, however if the helmet is too big even with the hat, i could see how it would slip around and minimize the protection offered by the helmet

yes, the helmet doesn't fit over your head entirely well and protect it if you use a beanie or something. I've found my giro 9 to be warm enough in most cases, but on the extremely cold nights, I have a very very thin underarmor skull cap i wear.

if you wear something under your helmet it makes hte helmet less protective

that kinda beanie dosent really make a difference. i wear one 2 if it's really cold. It's still safer than not wearing a helmet at all

the helmet has "zones" where there is certain protections, the hat screws all of that up, it is really best to just where the helmet or you can get those scull caps sold by helmet companies
