Ski clothing companies still don't get ti

wow...another news item on the front page... a new ski clothing company. ambush clothing. i check their website out, and what do you know, another huge dissapointment.

click t-shirts - all you get to see is the picture that I'm guessing is screened on the front of the shirt. Same with the hoodies. Jerseys? coming soon. Seriously, if I wanted screen printed fruit of the loom shirts, I'd photoshop something and make them myself. And I don't want to buy things from companies without a picture of the product. Please, if you're going to start a company, can you start a real one? And get designers, and creative people that know how to make clothing, and actually cut fabric?

To quote from the sublux interview, I have tremendous respect for the lifestyle companies in other sports. However, skiers need to realize when they buy from these companies, or some clothing store at the mall, they are not supporting skiing. When you buy from Sublux, your money goes back into the ski industry.

Do you really need to try to make kids feel bad about buying clothing from the mall so you can sell your lame ass walmart hoodie? Guess what, go to pacific sunwear, arguably a pretty "poser" store, and the hoodies there are way sicker than any ski hoodie i've seen (except for maybe siver, which i have some respect for).

But anyway, I don't even get the point of the argument. Who cares about "supporting skiing" by buying clothing. Last time I checked, the mountains will be open in a month, I have skis, and I'll be able to go skiing. What difference does it make if buy a sublux hoodie or not. You know the best way in my book to "support" skiing? Go ski.

Agreed! ..."free" mag to you, "free" gear for sponsored rider, "free" product/exposure at rail jam...someone is paying for it and it is who advertise/sponsor the events...which should be any "core" brand. Which if any company does it is worth supporting (support, you don't HAVE to like it) that brand that cares about giving you opportunites and outlets to LOVE skiing even more...which is why we are here. If nothing else these companies are at least giving you options within the industry of clothing, that do give back to our ultimate cause!

wow, i have been in this industry for about 4 months. Everyone needs to chill out. I am doing my best. I Tried having my own shit cut, i dident have the funds. This is were im starting. If you support me, down the road shit will happen. Also, i droped my site 3 days ago, how in the hell am i going to support a "comp" or a "rail jam". You guys need to back up and look at this again. A DC hoodie that is very much involved in skateboarding (which is not the sport your heavily into) Or a company, just starting out, that is affiliated and calls them self a ski company, that somewere down the road could do wonders for the sport. Make your choice.

I don't think anyone is really saying you shouldn't start your own clothing business. I think everyone is just saying they don't feel obligated to purchase your products. That's the way it is right now. Do you think everyone was all over Jay's shit when he started making funny-looking skis? Hell no. He was getting dogged by the other companies and consumers alike. Just a couple years ago I was instructing @ Boreal. Most of the mountain reps and senior staff looked at twin-tips as a phase. People perservered and now look. Are there even any companies who don't make twins? Dude, keep on truckin. Don't get beat up because you're not the shit right now. Make tons of mistakes and get better. People will respect you for that. I thought I was a pretty good writer, but I get slammed every day at work. I'll get a lot better as time goes. It's just the way it is.
Sorry for the book... I'm done ranting now.

how do you even know the clothes are going to suck? you can get some really good quality hoodies from companies like hanes and champion and still just screen print them. there is even "big" companies that are still doing that. also, buying something from a company like ambush or prosper does support the ski industry. maybe you should look at what you are calling the "ski industry." i consider the ski industry someone who is making stuff for skiers, while skiing at the same time. a person that is doing that will in support the industry and build it into something bigger and better.

exactly, if you want to start a clothing company, by all means, start a clothing company. clothes are the main thing that keep us from being naked... so yeah, we need them... i think though, that it's more important to focus on being a good clothing company before you focus on being a skiing clothing company, cause honestly it's really difficult to convince people that your a skiing company if you don't make anything that has to do with skiing. So if all you make are clothes, the first step is accepting the fact that you are in the fashion industry first, and the skiing industry second, if at all. Once again, there's nothing wrong with this. We all need clothes. If you look at it this way, you are more likely to come up with something creative and intersting that anyone might like to wear (which includes skiers) rather than try and come up with something you think skiers want to wear (which excludes everyone else).

wow that website isreally gay...i looked at the media and there are 2 pictures...BOTH OFF NEWSCHOOLERS, and the video didn't work. oh and for your tee's/hoodies, take an actual picture of the product, not just what's printed on

really just face it you need money to make money and by looking at that site... they dont have no money...another thing you need is talent and whoever is making those clothes doesnt have any. anybody could make all the shit they have on that website in less then a week

none of my comments were aimed at ambush clothing in particular, or any other company.

Personally I think for the next few years it is going to be mainly companies like Armada that have a good chance at succeeding in the clothing biz skiing wise. A company needs to be able to tap the international market to really get high sales numbers, and they need good world recognition to do that. A company that actually makes skis will be better able to do that, I think.

I agree that companies shouldn't make lifestyle goods if they haven't shown their involvement in the sport. When I wear my "Line" T-shirt out in public because I want people to know that I am a skier and i'm representing my sport. I don't wanna pick on Ambush, but Ambush represents skiing? says who? Ambush?

I know I could make snowboarding T-shirt because Snowboarding is more popular and i'd make more money right? Because I'm telling the consumer I support snowboarding. Does that mean snowboarders are going to buy my shit? In my opinion companies need to prove their involvement in the sport. And by this i mean to produce something functional and original. Such as Outerwear, skis etc.

My advice to aspiring ski companies is to concentrate your resources and attempt to find investors to start your company before you get in over your head. And this doesn't just go for Ambush. I know it takes a lot ob balls to start a business, But do your self a favor and plan and gather resources efore you get in too deep.

man you torched me. you're right, I never started my own t-shirt company. so I guess if I don't make ski movies, I can't post my opinions on them. And until I get my own ski press, I can't let anyone know if I like my skis or not.

If you disagree with me, why don't you make your points, or explain why I'm wrong instead of calling me a nothing. And do you matter? Because you sure seem to give a shit.

i'm sure there are people who are amped on their shit, so let them be...no need to bring anyone down, who knows? maybe ambush could be the next siver! (who also started out with a few shirts/hoodies)

Like I said, its not easy to start a company, funding is a huge part and you can't just jump into production of a ton of stuff, especially when you are young. And yes you are doing nothing that would give you any room to talk. Mebbe we should make a thread thats about how sick we are of people bitching about other people that are trying to make something instead of hating on everything.

i want some normal clothes i can wear places with out looking fucking retarded. this arty punk shit isnt cool. make some normal clothing. sublux is a company with tons of possibilities but insted they're going to make clothing that from what i can see has nothing to do with skiing. i dont want a shirt with a disorted multi-colored face on it. just make some shirts with the company logo and some other simple stuff. i would much rather support a company like oakly that most likely wont put the money they make back into skiing, but they make some normal clothing.

i think one main problem is that this guy at ambush whatever started promoting before he had anything to promote!

i also agree who wants to buy a crappy as shirt or sweatshirt. take the hit and make good stuff to start off and people will be like hey this is nice stuff i want to buy more and when other people see how nice it is they will want it.

also ambush whatever whoever you are don't just sit there and try and defend yourself use this oppurtunity to push the suppiority of your product and tell people why they might want to buy it.

i think that thread has been made

in my opinion this is one of the best threads that i have seen in a while

the guy at ambush is getting a ton of feedback and suggestions
he is learning what people that make up the ski community want to see and if he truly wnats to be a ski company he is getting alot of suggestions as to how people want to see a company give back

i hope people from every ski company are paying attention to what the consumer says

do you think the people that are bitching are goign to buy the product and isn't that the point is to sell stuff so it is important to hear this stuff and make the company better

I Don't mind buying from a ski compagny that doesn't do coats,skis,boots or hardgoods, if it's nice desing and good quality and the compagny is actualy in the movement, by doing concrete things in the industry. Seeing that type is just good. We will separate ourself as another separate extreme sport, every extreme sports has clothing company.
