what i am saying is that what punks do is so awesome, they do one thing that no one else does then, people copy it, thats how punk got so dirty. so now it seems dead because of trendy kids.
to quote the dead kennedys "Punk’s not dead / It just deserves to die / When it becomes another stale cartoon / A closed-minded, self centered social club / Ideas don’t matter, it’s who you know / If the music’s gotten boring / It’s because of the people / Who want everyone to sound the same / Who drive bright people out / Of our so-called scene / ‘Til all that’s left / Is just a meaningless fad"
going by that punk is close to being dead. a big part of punk, fuck rock n roll for that matter died with gg allin.
asside from most (but not all) of the bands on punkcore and some other acceptions, most punk bands that are decent dont have most of the fashion people think of when you think punk and/or emo...
Agreed that the good punk music was back in the 70's and 80's, but hey the Adicts are still playing. I think that people just dress punk like this girl that I don't like, and don't really listen to the music. For some reasons I think punk is dead, but for some I don't.
so so true...any of the GOOD quality punk bands that have been around for awhile usually all dress pretty normal..some jeans and t shirts..thats about it.....its the new age "wear all skin tight black clothing" jerkoff's that are usually ripping off someone else's sound...punk isn't a sound, its a way of thinking...no amount of tshirt's from hot topic will ever change that
punk is still alive.. not so much in style but the music is still there. i dont dress punk but i listen to t constantly and despise rap.... i try to convert people at my school its hard though.
i dont get it...emo means emotional. All music is emotional. Angry music, funny music, feel good music, frustrated music, and sad music. Those are all emotions! Therefore everybody is "emo" in some form if they listen to music.
pretty much it says that emo, in general has gotten much worse over the years, starting off with bands like Fugazi and Gray Matter, and now bands like Coheed and simple plan...
I dont like to think of it as dead so much as it has evolved over the years. call me a fag or whatever but i like alot of the pop-punk type of bands along with just like the typical skate punk stuff. bands like...
millencolin, gob, offspring, the matches, avenged sevenfold, 1208, billy talent, fall out boy(yeah i said it), dont look down, pulley, rise against, senses fail, social code, unwritten law, and tiger army.
these are all really good bands but not necessarily "punk"
I prefer keeping the old street punk style. Bands like Conflic, The Casualties, Dayglo Abortions, The Unseen, The Briggs, Drop Kick Murphy and Irish punk bands like The Real MacKenzies.
true punk rock all stared with andy warhol and the velvet underground. punk rock when it started was all about being gay, or bi. it was about being different, fisting dudes on stage, bondage, it was all based off of sex and saying fuck everyone else. fuck more than half of the punk bands back then couldnt even play music. hints the 3 cord songs.
punk rock today is a fashion. it has lost all meaning.
it actually did pretty much. Basically it was musicians getting dressed up in S&M gear, and doing crazy sexual shit on stage. Go rent the documentary of the Sex Pistols, its actually not much about them, but about the history of the beginning of punk. you'll see.
^ look up gg allin the king of punk rock.
i dont know what kind of punk rock you are listing to but thats what punk all started from, its the roots of punk.
I'm just glad ska can't die like punk dies. Punk just goes mainstream, or because too commonsight while ska just plain out dies because of lack of listeners! Except for me, cause ska ain't dead as long as they keep pushing those ska is dead tours! wow that great
(i dont consider myself a punk, or any kind of punk expert.) I listen to The Clash, and they are amazing of course, probably one of the most artistic punk bands to exist. Music like theirs just doesnt exist anymore. That kind of punk, IS dead.
too true, too true. ska is purely dependent on itself, majority of ska bands are around because they love the music, they get barley enough money to get by on. almost every other kind of music is all getting money. start a band try to make a hit that will make it big, sellout and hook up with countless groupies then fade out as fast a you came in. i love punk, but being rebelious is cool these days and kids want to be cool so punk becomes big easy at certain times because it is the cool thing to do, then it dies off the face of mainstream then will return in a little while. i.e. 60's-70's it hit big then in the mid 80s it hit agian, then mid 90's punk hit it huge(ska hit it big also). now it seems to be dead again.
my point exactly! amazing! ha, i've also heard about him punching a girl in the face before...a friends brother has a dvd with stuff on it but i havent seen it
yeah man, pulley's definetely got some good shit. They're not the best but ur guaranteed a few real good ones on a cd of theirs. I dont know any of mock orange's stuff though. The name sounds familiar but i dont think ive heard any of their stuff.
