when you import, break it up. meaning, dont import everything- start and stop a few times so it breakes it up. also, use the razor tool to cut up clips

well first off dont just import the whole miniDV, thats a retarded amount of space needlessly wasted on your computer, make use of the 'in' 'out' markers when you are caputring your footage.

and like he said just use the razor tool(its icon looks like alittle razor blade) to trim clips and what not.

hit i for the in point and o for the outpoint.  then hit capture and it will capture the selected footage.  Make sure that u leave a few seconds of extra footage on both sides of the clip.

If i understand what you're saying correctly, you've already captured your footage in one big chunk, and you want to know how to chop all that footage up into clips. Well here's how.
1) import your capture file into your project
2) double click on it
3) find where you want your clip to start, hit the set in point button, or press i
4) find where you want your clip to end, hit the set out point button, or press o
5) just click on where you see the video, and drag in down into your timeline
thats it.
