What do the red Xs beside people's names mean?
It means that they are in 'Away' mode. They are online, but may not be
at their computer.

I was just looking through my e-mail and noticed the confirmation e-mail for NS.

Back in the day you could set your status to away.
It was pretty stupid, so they got rid of it.
