COPPER MOUNTAIN — After nearly seven months of waiting in limbo, the Outdoor Life Network (OLN) has announced its Winter Gravity Games not only won’t be returning to Copper Mountain this season, but they won’t be held at all.
“We’re disappointed, but we’re going to move on, Copper general manager Gary Rodgers said at the annual Summit County Chief Operating Officers Panel Luncheon, where he announced OLN’s decision publicly Friday afternoon.
Both Copper and OLN had said negotiations for next March’s games were “ongoing as recently as this earlier month, but the network officially alerted Copper of its no-go decision this week.
According to Rodgers, OLN is simply “taking a year off from hosting the Winter Gravity Games, which the GM called “the biggest event that Copper has ever hosted.
OLN told Rodgers the 2006 Winter Olympics had something to do with its decision not to hold the Gravity Games this year. The Turin Games are scheduled for February, a month before the Gravity Games likely would have taken place.
Rodgers wasn’t surprised with the network’s decision in light of the unusually long waiting period.
“We sensed there was some uncertainty leading up to it, he said.
