Its a ridiculously stupid thing to argue. IF you can get past personal taste there are always supergroups... though I'm not too impressed with most of the 2000s yet... or where its going anyway... I mean The Killers? fuck. But yeah... um... Rolling Stones... ACDC... U2... Pearl Jam... Nirvana... fill in your own, theres always been good music... but I'd say most of the stuff now that's really good is from bands surviving from the 90s.

its funny how the 80's are coming back just a couple of years ago the 80's were considered to have generated some of the worst fucking music of all time, oh wait they still are responsible for that. everything is cyclicle and soon the 80's will be looked upon as shit again, for sure the 70's are much cooler.

and as for now...tell me stuff as destinct as the shins to bands such as muse or black star and michael buble

what i'm trying to say is the awesome thing about music today is there is so much diversity if you really look that you can find so many new, cool things that you didn't realize was out there

so for the people that said our decade is just highschool bands and crappy groups turn off your music channel on tv and pay attention to the real stuff

^took the words out of my mouth. i was gonna say, today doesnt have the powerhouse bands but we definetely have the diversity. Like, I love the music I listen to and its all current stuff, u just gotta know where to look. But, with all that said, its a pointless question because u have to specify... what kinda music are u talking about, what defines greatness(good bands, or amount of bands, or different styles, revolutions, etc...) and not to mention, its all a matter of personal taste. Some of the best bands out there, the ones with the most skill at all their instruments dont sound all that good or I guess marketable would be a better term. But on the other hand, some bands who really arent good at all can make really catchy sounding music that anyone could make and they get really famous for it *cough*greenday*cough*. But, if i had to choose one, id go with the 90's because of all the grunge/alternative/punk rock that went on in the 90's. But its safe to say that the boy band era(97-02 roughly) killed almost all rock thats from the 90's.

Just because in every decade there has always been something notable. Whether its an invention in music or an actual song.

it's hard to say because both the late 60's and the early 70's had some great music. But i think i would have to say that the 60's were better because there was definitely a revolution taking place during that time when artists began to play like none before them which lead to many new styles and types of music.

but that's exactly how music's been for a long time.
My mom went to highschool with a few bands. There were 2 bands who would play at the battle of the bands and a few local/school events. One of the school bands was called 'snow'. My mom had told me that they were way better than the other band at the school. The problem was that they didn't have much money to back them, while the other band (who wasn't that good) had a wealthy successful lawyer for a dad. That band was Van Halen. Which has gone down as being one of the greatest bands of all time, while no one has heard of Snow.

Just the way the music biz works.

well, that's coming from a number of different people who grew up with van halen and all said the same thing. They've all told me that they weren't nearly as good as Snow.

My point is that there is so much talent out there, so many bands that have everything right, but never get noticed and eventually fade away.

There always have been and always will be amazing artists that never make it.

Currently there are hundreds of bands out there right now pushing and taking music to new levels, but unless they know the right people or end up at the right place at the right time then they may never make it.

Good new music is coming out right now, you just may have to look a little harder for it.
