yeah back in my freshman year this girl died from meningitis and pretty much everyone liked her and she was really nice so everyone was really sad and crying. The next year her brother died in a drunk driving accident. That sucked a lot.

last year, this one kid's dad died of cancer. And people who werent even friends with him were crying and left school.

But at some point, it kinda just upsets them, because i guess until an event like this happens they don't relize how fragile life is, and how easily someone they know, maybe someone closer to them could die anytime.

What happened at your school isn't out of the ordinary. It will happen everywhere.

One of my good friend's dad died last year, and I had NO idea how to deal with it. It was obvious he was bottling up his feelings but I was too much of a pussy (or afraid of being labeled one) to talk about it with him. He eventually ended up getting drunk at school but the teachers ignored it because they knew what he was going through.

I ruined that shit... too late now. But what was I really supposed to do?

Erm... yeah.

I can so relate to this.

This kid died in a car accident last year, and the principal talked about it on the announcements. My teacher started crying and we were all deathly silent for 10 minutes. Then she left the room. The entire class just sat there for like 30 minutes in dead silence, it was the most awkward thing ever. No one in the class was friends with him, he was a grade above us. So finally I couldn't stand it any more so i said "So did anyone here know Johnny?" just to break the ice and maybe let some people who knew him talk about him a little. This extremely shallow and superficial girl immediately turned around and scowled at me, and told me to be quiet. And of course, I found out later that in my other friends' classes, people had been quiet for five minutes and then resumed as normal.

Then two weeks ago the brother of a girl who was killed during the columbine shooting came to speak to our school. He spoke about his sister Rachel and what an incredible person she was, and went on and on about how she was really nice to rejects in the school and kept on saying how she "knew she would make an impact on people's lives." Then it just got ridiculous, he basically just kept going about how his sister was a saint for being nice to people, and how she predicted her own death. He showed us an essay she wrote for english on her "code of ethics" and made a huge deal about it. Girls everywhere were crying.

My problem was that although it was a horrible tragedy, 12 other kids also died. He never mentioned any of them. He also made an incredible deal out of his sister, who may have been a very nice person, but was nothing that remarkable. And the worst part was, he is capitalizing off her death, and feeding the worst aspect of humanity, the love of suffering. People love stories such as his because by crying and feeling bad, they can feel better about themselves. Now don't get me wrong, I felt like shit after hearing his story. But I was also very angry cause I knew that most of the people crying were doing it so that other people could see them cry. I'm a nice guy too, but if I died no one would give a shit.

I can't stand when people take advantage of shit like that. I mean sure, it's cool to feel sad for people you don't know, I mean I feel bad everytime I hear tragedy on the news, but cmon, I hate when people act like they are all involved when someone they didnt give a shit about a few months earlier dies.

yeah stuff like thats wierd, it sucks but the kids that are acting need to get a hold of themselves, life ends at times when it isnt soppossed to, but its life, and it goes on. at my school, one girl died in a car accident, 3 other kids survived but she didnt have a seatbelt on, everyone was crying, and now about a 2 years later, i bet no one would remember it unless they were reminded of it, i still pray for her and her family everynight, along with the driver (my brothers friend, damn his life really got screwed after that happend), but thats just how it is i guess, just try to ignore them for now, it will go away.

a kid in my school's bro died a few years back when he fell off the back of a car and then his mom died about a year ago from brain tumors and its sad and shit but soooo many people exagerate and say how much they cried and how close they were and they didnt even know the family
