I got the new freeskier yesterday . its so sick
the buyers guide is the best i've seen. and there was tons of sick profiles.

I dunno, i think freeskier isnt that much of a good mag, at least compared to freeze... I feel dumb writing this, but its not hardcore enough for me

freeze will always be everyones favorite. fuckin transworld. i dont think freeskier is all that bad tho. i subscribed to it once freeze went under. but that new mag should kick some serious ass.

the buyer's guide is pretty good for their first effort at one.

i wish that they did their ski testing like ski mag does (about the only good thing about that magazine) and covered the topsheets on all the skis they tested. then there's no bias toward or against different companies. the guide is very opinionated (i.e. editor's picks) but it's their mag so i guess they can do what they want with it.

it's also pretty evident that this was a long time in the process with the rider profile insets. some riders have different sponsors now and have for months.

i liked how they photographed the clothes.

lizzie--read the copy, we ignored all of the rules and went out and skiied.

their is no bias and we ski, we all fill out forms and the process of picking editors quiver is determined from results.

And yes athletes change equipment sponsors daily. Once again read the copy like the wire where we say Michelle Parker is no longer with Line and now with K2...or Coker is looking at his options or Tim Russell is with Atomic...

maybe you should conduct a ski test and lets see your results

i got my subscription like last monday and have yet to recieve my freeskier mag

french is wierd too. the movie "mouse hunt" in french was called " nous reveillons pas un souris qui dors" meaning we wont wake up a mouse thats sleeping.

lizzie, it seems you don't understand to complexity of conducting an un-bias ski test with all of the skis being present. Skis take a long time to go from idea to building to testing to press release to available. It's very plausible that a lot of new skis were not available to be skied on yet. Yes, I do agree with you on the covered topsheets. I feel that in order to get an accurate test of whether to ski is good or not, the topsheet should be covered because if there is a topsheet of a naked chick and the dude testing it is always looking at his ski....he's not gonna remember how the ski rode, he's just gonna remember to topsheet and probably stutter a lot

ok about the topsheets being covered it doesnot help because all the manufactures use there binding on there skis it is very easy to be able to determine which ski is which.

Who got good reviews???????????

being unbiased doesn't mean that every single ski needs to be tested. it means that you have no prenotions or attatchments to the ski you're testing at the time, mostly caused by what company made the ski and your experiences with that company in the past.

not knowing what or who's ski you're skiing enables the skier to give an impartial judgement on that particular ski.

how is that not understanding the "complexity" of an unbiased ski test? it's simple scientific method.

Every ski is not tested, nearly impossible. Skis that suit the market/reader are tested. Fat/Twin, etc. No skinny carving skis are in the review.

No pre-bias from any of the testers. Yeah, some may have skied K2 or Rossi forever but that does not mean that a particular ski that one has skied on is a benchmark for judging another.

I don't miss Freeze. Yeah, it had a good run. Yeah, it was nice having three ski mags a month (Powder, Freeskier, and Freeze). But seriously, it's gone people. Freeze suffered from becoming sell outs, they sold out and then got shafted. It's alright though, because I have always liked Freeskier better because the magazine has always had great production, great photos, and better interviews (with the exception of JF Cusson in Freeze). Freeze looked like it was always rushing to completion by drunken idiots. Typos galore.

Anyways, Freeze is gone and nothing will change that....suffice a message from Transworld Media that got lost in the mail that said "just kidding". I'm looking forward to what Freeskier will bring, and also the rise of other ski mags. Sbc Skier, Ski Time, and one of the Phil's mags

i guess i am a little late on this post but that izzy girl who posted that stuff about the scientific method of ski testing sounds like she is a young inexperienced idiot who has never been involved in a ski test. I haven't either. But I know that if you are really into skiing (which I am sure the people in the ski test were) you would have to be a dumbshit if you couldn't figure out what ski you were on. Maybe they should've blind folded the skiers so then there would be no bias at all.

I'm confused. How can a ski test be "scientific'?

Scientific method refers to a methodology that can be repeated in a lab, under CONTROLED conditions. Like a mountainside covered with snow is a controled environment? Seems kinda clueless to argue that point to me.

Besides, ski tests will always be biased. A 200 lb guy with a racing background will always like a beefier, stiffer ski (unless he's a gaper or a hack and from what I hear plenty of those kind of journalists work at Ski).

Personally I like Freeskier's method. They tell you exactly what they think - like people on this forum - and they don't hide the fact that the test is opinionated.

Besides, I remember hearing from some folks in the ski biz that if you wanted your ski to get a coveted "Gold Medal" from ski or skiing mags, you damn well better be an advertiser and pay the big bucks. How "scientific" or "objective" is that?

how do you think that skis in freeskier get put in the "editor's quiver"? scoring? i think not. look at the troub for this year. a 6.75 and it still gets included.

scientific method does not involve a controlled environment. you control as many aspects of your experiment as you can. you can NEVER control them all. and seeing as how the test was performed last jan most people testing these skis will never have seen them. it fucking amazes me how many pros know little or nothing about other brands within the industry besides their own sponsors, if that. if you covered them they would have no clue as to what they were on besides observing that it's either a park or pow ski.

You guys should back off a bit.

When they test other skis in the world of ski tests, they do cover the topsheets, and put same bindings on it. It isn't perfect, but when you're testing a bunch of skis in a day it's easy to not realise what you're on. Especially when they're all models you've never seen before.

Normal ski tests have skis with covered tops, and as few distinguishing marks as possible. The skis are numbered, and the testers take them out. Then you have X number of categories to rate, and as you ski you give ski #1 a rating, then ski #2 a rating.

For sure people figure it out, but they do actually do this stuff in our world of skiing.

So back the fuck up and stop being assholes. You are the ones who don't know shit.
