So, I figure nobody went to the town meeting for Icer tonight, since I was the only person under the age of 40 there, but i'll give you guys a recap:
Problems that the neighbors bitched about:
-$2 million in insurance is not enough (one guy sited the $27 million dollar settlement of a kid getting run over by a bus as a good benchmark)
-Thursday date will interfere with the local elementary school
-Many complained "what is the point of the event"
-People are still afraid that someone's gonna die or crash into a house
-property values of homes might drop (i have no idea why)
-snow melting will cause leakage
-the hill is too steep for spectators. it's not safe. haha that one was the funniest.
Icer's comments:
-$2 mil is the same insurance for all big city events i.e. marathon, bike race, etc. and is inline with what the city considers normal
-Thursday date is to decrease the number of spectators
-Johnny moseley explained that the jump is pretty small and no one's gonna die
-all proceeds are going to Katrina donations (some indian bitch had the audacity to say that Icer was happy that Katrina happened because now the have a good excuse to have the event)
-warren miller will be filming, along with mtv, OLN, etc
-the under 15 kids comp will probabl not take place
City's comments (that supervisor aliotto-pier was actually cool and supporting the event)
-icer still needs to get permits for street closure, sound etc
-basically the city is supporting the event and trying to calm the neighbors down. both the supervisor and guy from the mayor's office were really cool about the idea and trying to rebutt the neighbor's arguments.
