"hip hop style" in skiing

I posted this in a thread in ski equipment in response to some complaining that freeskiing was started by punks so we should all dress like indie boys.
Thought some of you other monkeys could stand to hear this as well.

"Last time I checked skiing was a sport and had no connections to any particular type of music. When's the last time you saw a guy at a hip-hop show wearing snow pants?
Maybe you should pull your head out of your ass and realize that this "hip hop style" you're complaing about is actually just skier style."

Skiing is about SELF expression. Skiing is about diffrentiation not unity. (you wanna look like racers?) Freestyle skiing does not have a particular style, it has trends. Personnely I hate the hip hop style. I dig the newschool revolution era.

Since there was a thread on this two days ago, I hit up the search bar, copy pasted my old reply, and will use it here too!

It's[hip hop style] an influence, and its an image. All of our images, like it or not have been adopted from out society, mainly snowboard(which gets their images from skate and a little surf). Like it or not, its the way it is?

My question, continuing a discussion from SKEEZE, why do we have to copy an image? Why do we have to be the rockstar, the thug, punk, goth, whatever, can't we just have a ski style, a freeski style? I think we can, in time.

But about hating on the hip hop style, do you mean you hate the music, the baggy clothes, or the kids acting like bangers and being way to thugged out.

If its the music, thats your opinion, hate it or not, do what you want, I like it. If its the baggy clothes, yah it can get a little over the top, but an XL pant is way more comfortable than a tight fitting one. That again, personal preference. And as for the behaviors and thugness, that's what I hate, these fake wanna be thugs really coming from white, middle America, with an incredible talent for skiing.

My point is that baggy ski clothes has really nothing to do with hip hop, and that people bitching about other kids wearing super baggy ski clothes just because they don't like hip hop need to shut the hell up.
I hate hip hop and rap, can't stand it. but do I wear baggy clothes and shit? hell yes I do. because that's the shit I like to wear. It has nothing to do with a genre of music, nothing at all.

i think there is a "skiing style", baggyish clothes cas they look baller, and just wear what looks good, its really is how you ski, we should be talking about style on grabs, not clothing or music. but i do believe some kids take it too far with the baggy shit, but whatever floats thier boat, sometimes i too have the urge to see how it would be to be a black gangster skiier....dont we all?.... watch any snowboarding video and go to snowboarding.com nobody makes a big deal about baggy ass clothing and jerseys and doo rags, do what you want, but a lot of newschool skiers will continue to dress with hip hop style.

i listen to hip hop while im out riding because it flows. i wear my clothes a little baggy because it's comfortable.

Actually the last time I check the aren't to many boarders wearing Tight clothes they're just as much into the baggy clothes. They even got their version of T-hall who actually was around before T-hall so you could almost say Mark Frank Montoya started it.(don't talk about stuff you don't know)

there is no problem at all with hip hop in skiing in many ways it was a match made in heaven what flow and everything, but when kids who grew up in wyoming, montana, colarado, vermont etc, start biting on the way people talk who are from the hood and fronting like thier thugs it looks so fucking ridiculous, and this is comming from some one who was born and raised in queens, new york and moved to the mountains on his own dollar when he was 18. fuck all you wanksters.
