Boreal Mountain Resort Opening
Northern California’s First and Only
All-Mountain Terrain Park
Resort retains its traditional downhill terrain, as well as renowned beginner offerings
Donner Summit, CA (Winter 2005-06) – Boreal Mountain Resort will open the first and only all-mountain terrain park in Northern California this winter. The Resort will boast terrain parks consisting of 100 rails, jumps and funboxes for every ability.
While Boreal will be offering terrain features from the resort’s 9 chairlifts, traditional downhill terrain will be available at the resort for guests looking to ski and snowboard on groomed trails. Boreal offers an extensive beginner program which too will be outside of the terrain park flow. Boreal offers three sessions of beginner lessons a day, packages include a lift ticket, lesson and rental gear. While the parks may be the place to hone your skills, Boreal remains one of California’s best places to learn the sport, then learn to freeride and freeski in the parks from a dedicated staff of ski and snowboard instructors.
“It is an honor to have the opportunity and the management support to bring a significant part of Boreal’s history back to life, said Eric Rosenwald, freeride terrain park manager for the Resort. “We have some of the industries top park builders on staff for the coming season he added. “Our sister resort, Park City Mountain Resort, recently rated number one by Transworld Snowboarding magazine, is an example of how dedicated our parent company is to creating quality parks, said Rosenwald.
The Resort’s capital investment to the all-mountain terrain park is scheduled at over $700,000. With a new Zaugg pipe cutter, Boreal will feature a 450-foot long superpipe, located off the Accelerator Express Quad Chair on the Race Course run. Boreal’s superpipe will be in-ground, offering an earlier target opening and a permanent foundation. In addition, Boreal is adding two new grooming machines to the parks, 50 rail and funbox features and extensive staffing.
The all-mountain terrain park will offer features from every lift at the resort, day and night. Boreal will be the only Northern Californian ski and snowboard resort to dedicate every run to park riders. In 1992, Boreal was one of two resorts to offer a public terrain park in the country. “It’s time to get back to our roots and take park riding at Tahoe to a higher level said General Manager, Matt Janney.
Andy Finch, recent Winter X Games second place winner of the men’s snowboard superpipe competition recently commented on Boreal’s new addition. “I’m stoked Boreal is bringing in the big 18.5 Zaugg, it’s the best cutter with the smoothest tranies. Finch has trained at Boreal over the years. “This park is a dream come true for every park rider, said internationally known pro snowboarder David Benedek, and producer of 91 Words For Snow, one of the biggest snowboard films coming out this fall.
Boreal Mountain Resort is Northern California’s closest resort, now offering Tahoe’s first and only all-mountain terrain park.
