Whistler: pre-season jobs?

I'm arriving in town on the 15th or 16th September (only a week to go!), got a rental tech job starting on 13th November so I need to find something in the mean time. I tried the Longhorn on McKeeman's recommendation but the kitchen dude said there's no way he'd hire me for two months. Anyone have some suggestions for me? I'll do pretty much anything, even if it doesn't pay much.
Telling the Longhorn I could only work two months was obviously a mistake looking at it now. Do you think it'll be fine to get a job somewhere then just leave after the first week of November?

good to hear you're still coming out man, mckeeman left his room more or less presentable for you but I'll try and touch it up a bit before you get here. Sorry about the Longhorn though, I was hoping Steve would hire you but it is pretty damned dead already. If you can find other work it might be better anyway as the head chef at the horn is kind of a nutbar. I don't know if it's something you want to do but one thing worth looking into is construction, it's teh one industry I can think of offhand that virtually always needs people. As for the duration of your stay I suggest you tell prospective employers that you're here for the season and then have a sudden "change of plans" when it's time for you to go. Most places probably won't want to bother training you and shit for that brief a period of time.

Sean, right? I emailed Tree I I've got all you guys' numbers now. I'll phone the house from Vancouver when I know what day I'll be getting into town.
A friend of mine who is coming over in November was talking about construction jobs too - he said the same pretty much and that it's actually decent pay for what it is - it's an option.
I've been delivering pizzas for Dominos for the last 6 months so I might even see if Dominos is hiring in-store staff - I know how everything works and I'm sure it's pretty much identical the world over.
Anyone else?

you lie and say you are staying the season. You're not looking for a reference for 2 months are you. You have to lie.... its the only way. Or your job will be stolen from under your nose from some undeserving aussie

its not hard to find jobs. in the past week i have got a $12/hour job landscaping, an interview for a $17/hour job gardening, an on call job for $12/hour landscaping, and a year long job working at Le Chamois. Im passing the fist landscaping job to a friend, and im not doing the on call one, and i figure it will be easier to keep one job all year rather than do the $17/hour and have to find another job in november. get on your lazy ass and go to whistlerchamber.com and look up jobs, then fax a resumer. why would you look for restauraunts and shi shops when no one is up here. go landscaping/painting/gardening. they want to get rid of you in november so it works out perfectly

Thanks for the link, I'll look into that. Really I don't care what I'm doing or if it pays a lot. Dishwashing = a good chance of free food though which would be good.

Yeah I just saw that's on the 15th. Think you (or Sean, if you're going?) could get me a ticket and I'll make sure I get into town for it. Should be a good way to spend my first night!

Yeah, I realise that now. No big deal though - I'll find something.
Whyt not MSN? I don't have these guys' addrresses, 8 hour time difference and this reaches many people who could help.

Apply at IGA, they're suuuper low on staff. This guy I know got hired for 1 week there in the deli. And they were gonna hire another friend for only two days. TWO DAYS! Thats how desparate they are. Or Behind the Grind (coffee shop) has been looking for ppl for a while now. Like months....but that's prolly not a good sign (but if its only 2 mths, whatever). Just some ideas.....
