Replying to Cliff jumping accident
over the labour day weekend I was up at my gf's cabin on Nelson Island (sunshine coast) enjoying the end of summer (well, I don't go to school so summer ain't over for me yet - suckers!, anyways)
over the weekend Karyn's (my gf) brother came up to the cabin and brought a bunch of his friends with him. now, no offence to city people (aka - citiots) but they were pretty ignorant about their surroundings, lighting fires everywhere, smashing glass bottles all over the place, and generally being idiots... but that has nothing to do with what I am actually talking about so I'll move on...
we were around in this bay by her cabin jumping off cliffs (and we might have been a little drunk) and me, this other dude, and this chick were doing the jumping. the chick jumped off the smaller cliff (15ft, than she skipped the 30ft and went to the 50ft cliff and jumped that one... she was fine.)
but than we went up to the 70ft'er and she was the last of the three of us to jump. now, it's a straight forward cliff; straight down, no rocks in the water to hit, no ledges, just jump and land. i jumped second and she jumped third.... she landed feet first in the water, but came up head down, unconcious. i swam over to her and brought her head out of the water than gave her to Karyn who knows all that good first aid stuff (she's a lifeguard and stuff, well, used to be, but that's not the point), we got her up on the dock where she did gain concisnous, but she was spitting up blood (no she didn't bite her toung) and was convulsing... eventually the paramedics came and heli'd her to Vancouver General where they found out she had a lot of swelling in the brain (i guess that's what happens when you get a concusion)...
i don't know exctly why i'm writting this, except for the fact that it was pretty intense shit, and it's kind of a message to all of you to watch your shit, and your friends...
we really have no clue as to what happened, she jumped fine, she landed fine (or so it seamed), all we can assume is that she didn't realize how big the cliff was and fainted while she was falling than hit the back of her head on the water when she landed...
just watch your shit - and keep givin' er... just maybe don't drink and cliff jump.
