How big of yacht to those damn oil men need to get to be satisfied!! Those oil men will do anything to get extra money! Now they blame higher gas prices because of that fucking Hurricane thats a bunch of bull shit!! Those oil men are a bunch of gready ass holes. Fuck you oil men burn in hell you bastards. All they are doing is stealing the American peoples money all because they are gready little bitches. We must try to do something not just sit around and pick are asses. Lets do something about this shit not just keep paying higher and higher gas prices. But seriously what can we do really nothing except protest this shit. Also if you haven't heard you we real soon because out in Richfield Utah they have just found one of the biggest discoverys of oil ever. And the oil is so good its pure yellow when they are retreveing it. They believe it is going to big bigger than Iraq. Anyway who knows that could help are economy. But seriously those damn oil men are so gready and when are economy is going through a tough time they raise the gas prices even higher. We all need to try to do something not just keep on paying higher and higher gas prices.

supposedly some oil places got destryed by the hurricane. i'm claiming some bull on that. maybe it possibly did some damage, but the increase is retarded

Anyway, a gas station we pass. We got gas, and ran off to get grub.It was a nice little pub in the middle on nowhere. Anywhere woulda been better. I ordered enchiladas and I ate 'em, Ali had the fruit punch.

I read in popular science that Honda is making a skateboard Chasis car that has it's engine and all the working parts in the floor, and it runs on hydrogen. Im serious its gonna be fucking tight and it showed a prototype that they built. it looks sick....too bad its gonna cost like $100,000 to buy one though.

Your uncle is riding the wave... People in control of gasoline stand to make a whole shitload of money in the coming future.

There is only so much oil in the earth and we use millions of barrels a day. We are reaching the point where we can no longer extract as much as we use, and resources are dwindeling.

If consumption continues to grow (as it has every year for the last 50 years), and the rate of extraction flatens out then begins to decline, countries with oil will make alot of money (aka Iraq). Countries that depened on alot of oil will suffer (aka US). And the people at the top get very very rich.

Yah I agree... I've read so many documents about how peak oil will be the end of the modern civilisation. But I think humans are little more resourceful than the writers give us credit for.

However, I do think it will be a long time before we're pushed hard enough to change our ways...

Did you know that we have gotten twice as much work from each barrel of oil since 1975. If efficiency continues to improve, the time for peak oil will be put off. no one really knows when peak oil will be but I've heard mostly around 20 years and by then I hope we will have a knew type energy source

I almost died when I was driving down the street today and saw that it was 3.50 a gallon. Its getting way out of control.

well it would make sense for gas to increase... buuuuttt, oil comapnies and their executives are making record profit, and thats because, yes, we are paying record prices.
it doesnt matter if we have reached or surpassed "peak oil," because we are extrating more than ever. so i will agree, fuck the oil companies, because they are responsible.
this is like the whole energy price spike we saw on the west coast a few years back, supposed "droughts" and shit caused it, but then bam! all the blame went to a few assclowns who banked beyond banked for inflating the price, or something.

Here is what I do to protest..... I ride my bike everywhere. I recently graduated college and lucked out to find a tits job 3 miles from home. So I sold one of my two cars and pretty much parked my other one. I bike my ass everywhere. I had a cyclocross bike laying around so i use that. You know what, its actually kinda nice. I fill up maybe twice a month now and i'm staying in better shape. If more and more of us started walking, biking or using public transportation, it may help a bit.

And no, i'm not a hippie. I just like to mtn and road bike a lot.

The peak oil ideas are accurate, however, I don't agree with many of the author's doomsday attitude, the "give up and learn to swim" argument just seems like a copout on an actual path towards resource stability.

Thispart is to anyone, not just you NoPoles:

If we focuses our efforts in the right vicinities we would be able to solve our energy problems. Unfortunately, most of the funding goes towards weapons and threat detection research (I work for national weapons lab, believe me, I know). In addtion, both tax dollars and individual funds are spent on bullshit, which feeds our consumer product based economy. Our economy is built on the fact that advertisers can get people to buy something simply because it's cool. We should be spending and creating based more on need rather than desire. I'm guilty of the same thing--we all are. But we should at least be making an effort to stabilize our out of control spending.

And our government should reciprocate this by making energy research priority number one. Unfortunately, our government is run by the same breed of corrupt assfucks who run the top companies in this country--the same assfucks who will not change because they fear a paycut.

All I know is that a week or two ago, prices jumped to 99 cents a litre. I couldnt barely swallow that rpice, but now today it jumped to $1.20 a litre! Thats a 20% increase in gas prices in one day. I think this time last year gas was around 75 cents...

Couldnt agree more man. i wish there was a way to focus more efforts on alternative fuel sources but to much money in washington comes from car and oil companies. no one is risky enough to shove those groups to the side in order to save the environment

line addiction you really need to watch waht you say...my dad owns a heating oil company called local pride its a pretty big company for the area we are in and he hates to see people not be able to afford oil and my dad loses so much money because people don't pay him and take him to court and they win cuz they're on welfare now if you told my very hard working and respectable father fuck you i would have to fucking kill you he gets sundays off on the weekends and usually works 14 hr days including saturdays he has no vacation time in winter and he tries to keep prices as low as possible but please next time you say fuck oil men watch what you're saying cuz its not the little guys that make the prices

Sorry for bringing Bush ino this but there is a lot he and the federal government could be doing to aid this situation. He could do things like reduce highway speeds so people would use less gas. He could also freeze gas prices so the large companies liek Haliburton and other refineries can't profit off of people misfortune from this hurricane. What makes me maddest though is America's stance on Global Warming which is basically, it doesn't exist. Which allows Bush to give far less Government money to alternative fuel ventures and allow his oil-buddies to make record profis.

Please people--this issue is about consumer habits, government R&D funding for alternative resources, and power concentration.

Yes, fossil fuels hurt the environment. Unfortunately, that has nothing to do with gas prices going through the roof.

If your goal is to preserve the environment, take a more direct approach and get to the HEART of the problem. It's the fact that it all revolves around convenience and money. Not many people give a fuck about the environment--a lot say they do, most don't. Very few TAKE ACTION for the environment.

However, if you want average Joe to pay attention, grab his wallet and threaten to take it--noooow you're going to get his attention. Fortunately for all you enviro nuts, fuel efficiency and alternative resources benefit both the environment AND consumers.

So instead of always approaching the argument from a "global warming, the planet is dying" perspective, make your point using a different, more effective argument that will allow you to achieve the same goal, while reaching the deaf, environmentally inconsiderate majority.

In short--make the scared about their money and their convenience and they'll run circles for you.

this is true but for ever said we get our oil from there is wrong most of our oil comes from the midle east we just refine it there our oil in the us is a lower quality then that of the midle eastern oil we sell a decent amount of our oil to poorer nations cause our oil is shity.

i think its great that prices are going up so much. maybe it will startle people out of their complacency, maybe the average joe will care about the environment. i plan to do something about it, i am filling out applications right now for stanford and UBC to study environmental chemistry. i honestly care a lot about the environment, and i know that if everyone cared about it, we could solve these problems with fossil fuels.

i bike everywhere i can, and anything that is more than a 2 hour bike ride away i'll hop on a train or bus.

also, my mum drives a diesel, and ive heard that they can work the same if you fill it with vegetable oil

Unfortunately, producing the quantities of vegetable oil needed to operate a vehicle, not too mention millions of vehicles, is so insanely impractical that it's universal use is completely unrealistic.

That kicks ass that you're able to get around without a car though. I'm going to start trying the same approach here...just can't fucking afford this shit.

i have to get around without a car cause im unable to save up enough cash for even a cheap car cause i always spend it on booze.
Also, what would take 20 minutes by car, takes over an hour on the bus, but still, i kinda like being part of the public transportation thing

and my uncle told me to just buy a diesel and go around to all the casse croutes around and use all the oil that they throw out, it doesnt necessarily need to be vegetable oil, could be way off the mark with that though.
