K2 smarter then armada and line

Been noticing all the hype with armada and line lately. However everybody seems to be forgetting about k2. They aren't 100% freestyle like line and armada, but they sure as hell are smart.
I walked into a snowboard shop with my friends, then a ski shop. I was amazed at the differences. For one thing, i could get a package, snowboard, boots and bindings for 279. While the cheapest pair of skis i saw in the ski shop were like 500, without bindings, or boots.
No wonder snowboarding became so popular, it caters to a bigger spectrum of ppl. Who are the ppl who freestyle skis are unnoficially for, younger ppl. i dunno about you, but i rarely see a 40 yr old guy on twins. Now who has the lowest pay, a kid, so instead of paying 650 for a decent pair of skis, without boots or bindings, what is he gonna spend it on.
K2 tho, i was amazed. The enemy i can get for around 300 bucks, can. The new public enemy somewhere around there. They of course are gonna make so much more profit, even if they get less outa 1 pair of skis, then line or armada, even tho i am not to sure about armada. I know you can get last years skogs for 325, but i mean this years skis.
Hopefully other ppl will follow k2's example, and skiing gets on par or bigger then snowboarding. That is the only way i can see it
if this makes no sense to you its because i am drunk now, but try to read between the lines.

Snowboarding didn't become so popular because of low prices. The low prices came when it became so popular. When more people start twin tipping, the prices too will drop.

ah... my dad has been saying that snowboarding was like the easy way out in snow sports, because its soooo much cheaper when it comes to the gear... the people that have to have new skis every year are stupider than shit paying so much. i got my 2002's w/bindings for $400, thats kinda pricy, but now skis are getting so bloody expensive... $600, $700... $1000+, thats too much. i was looking online and saw the same thing, much cheaper skis, K2 enemys. just amazing, i just said almost exatly the same thing but shit, its like skiers, are getting priced out

That is the whole idea behinde k2 selling the enemy so cheap.

to get more people into skiing the twintip.
they are doing a lot for the sport.

Twin tips only make up a small market in the ski industry. The amount of skiers who ride twins although increasing is still relitively small. Snowboarding on the other hand has a much larger market because of it's greater popularity. The more skis that are sold, the cheaper skis will get. By saying that people are stipid for going out and buying a new pair of skis every year is stupid in itself. If we all went out and bought a new pair of skis to stimulate the market we would see the price of skis come down in the long run.

Hold on, look at recreational skiing, it is very popular. The prices for those skis are more expensive than twin tips. It might be different for freeriding, but it hasn't happened to recreational skiing.

Has it ever occured to anyone that the reason twin tips are cheaper then say a GS ski? Its because they are built in a manner that is less labor intesnive, with cheap materials. Look at most twin tips, cap construction with a foam core. wham bam EASY and CHEAP to fabricate. Ever wonder why a solid percentage of twintips fall apart? Cheap Construction, Cheap Materials. Its Convienent for the Ski manufatuers though... You come back every season and spend another 400 bucks on a pair of disposable skis. Cha CHING!

line skis are less expensive that other twin tips too. you can get 1260s for 400.

unless ure sponsored, then not this years brand new, and the enemy is a 2004 ski, coming out mid season, like the mike nick was a 2003 ski, and you can get that for around 300 canadian when it comes out. CANADIAN

look, i'm no pro on snowboard prices, but i mean compared to rec. skis and everythign, one could sorta say that twin-tips are 'higher-end' than most skis. and the board prices, like are we talking solid, decent boards and not the crap ones I see at Sport Mart for $160?

my intire crew waited for his ass at the bottem of the hill and beat the shit out of him. i broke his poles agianst a tree, and we snapped one of his skis. fucker got uppercutted so much. he was bleeding from his eyes and shit, crying like a little pussy. i busted out a body slam on his ass and broke both of his arms. the ski patroler broke up the fight and clipped all of our tickets. we where gonna beat the shit out of the patroller but my mom came to pick us up.

i would love to see a pair of new concepts for 300 can. So far the cheapest i have seen was from a REP, not RETAIL, and that was 199 us(more then 300 canadian) for a pair of candides. and YOU ARE COMPLETELY MISSING THE POINT.

As I was reading through a number of the posts in this forum something occured to me.

The other day as I read through a Snowboarding/Skiing catalog that my friend received in the mail I notice that the catalog had snowboard brands that I'd never even heard of. Brands that were very inexpensive. Flipping through the pages I noticed that the prices increased as the popularity of the brand increased. A concept that has been around since the beginning of manufacturing. Skiing doesn't have such a thing. I have yet to see a ski manufacturer that has not a deemed a 'Top of the line company'...in skiing there are no 'Off-Brands' for those with less to spend to turn to. Someone who would like to get into freestyle skiing is forced to spend top-dollar on top brands.

K2 is being smart because they don't sell as many twins as other companies. How do you get people to buy your product, make it cheaper.

And you can't find as many good used twins because people beat the shit out of them and throw them away. that is what we do.

I wouldn't say K2 is *smarter* than other companies... I'd say that K2 has what, 68 years of experience, and a hell of a lot more money to back up their sales. So if they don't cut a big enough profit on twins its okay, and it's great that they are dropping prices to stimulate the market. But don't bash Line for its prices, because that's what Line was and is all about- making high-quality products that newschool skiers can afford. Jay Levinthal really put his ass on the line (no pun intended) when he started making skis and selling them for 300 bucks, which is what Lines were selling for originally. Twin-tip sales for K2 are practically nothing compared to their other recreational skis; twin-tip sales for Line are EVERYTHING. So Line has had to raise prices a bit, just to keep its head above water financially. You can still get a sick pair of skis for an awesome price.

And boards are cheaper, and will always be cheaper (in general) because one piece of wood will be cheaper to make than two pieces of wood.

And! For all of you who complain about prices, well, stop looking in your shops and do some research. I bought skis, bindings, and boots this year (all minimally used) from top brands at top quality, and paid $250. No pro-forms, no connections, just good research.

the prices companies charge are based on market research and formulas. there's a lot of shit that goes into making prices the way they are. it basically boils down to the market equillibrium price and price sensitivity and shit. the companies figure out how to maximize their profits. i'm all for k2 driving down prices, but i don't hear a lot of kids on here talking about their enemies or anything, so it would seem that their idea didn't work out the firs time around. i guess we'll see with the pe.

oh yeah, as for boards, i think it's ridiculous that there are new, $40 Cdn, boards out there. of course they're from Canadian Tire and have like a steel base I believe. but that's besides the point.
