So it's time for me to start thinking about what all arround ski I want for this year. I have an older pair of Mad Trix that I really love but I'm looking for something a little bit different. I've got it narrowed down to 2 skis. 176 Head Mojo or 177 Volkl Karma.
I'm 6'2" about 190. I tried the 186 Mojo and hated them and the karma doesn't come in anything bigger. I skiied both last year and really loved both. I think I liked the Karmas a little better because they felt a bit softer and lighter. I'll be using them for all arround skiing. Pow, trees, cliffs, park (very few rails).
So who has an opinion?

the Karma comes in a 185, that's the right size and ski

That's like riding a friggin boat at that size. Especially considering how wide it is. I hated the bigger Mojo on the groomers and in the trees, it might be good for a deep pow day but i said fuck it and got the next size down.

deffinately go for the longer skis you'll get better stabillity and that means that you will be more comfortable at higher speeds.

You think the karmas are too fat? haha, I was gonna recommend the mantra untill you said that. I have ski descisions myself, I'm thinking at this point either S-Lab Guns or B4Bandits, I've found that too fat is better than too skinny. Do you not like longer skis? I find them a lot more stable and you are a fairly big skier seems like you should be on 180-190'ish

^no they're not too fat. I love the width underfoot. I just don't like how HUGE they feel when i'm riding the 186 or whatever. They just feel huge, slow to turn and heavy.

Seems like California terrain would call for a longer ski. I will trade stability for fast turns anyday. If I was skiing trees in the east I would prolly get a shorter ski but out here I feel longer is safer. I went from a 161 skinny to a 175 midfat to a 187 fatty, skiing seems to get easier the longer I go. Thats why I'm considering bumping up to 195 bandits. I can definetly tell I can't turn as fast or precisely but I'm starting to catch up with my length. I think it's better to hop up sizes everynow and then even though it's a little over your head for a few weeks once you get a feel of how to ski it, it improves your skiing. At least I think so, go with whatever you like. The karma is kinda stiff I found stiff long skis ski longer than soft long, perhaps you should find something a little softer than the karmas.

182 Scratch BC.
185 Armada ARV
186 Pollard (with the big tails, and the forward mounting it skis alot shorter, feels like a 180 with extra tail)

agreed. Smiliar dimensions to the skis you listed, and at your size, the 182 would make a great all around ski. And they kill it in the park too.

I took someones advice and was checking out the Mantra from Volkl. Those dimensions look almost perfect. I guess I just have to demo it and see if i like it.

I'm 6'2" 200, and prefer a stiffer ski. I'd be going with the karma's myself.. but i want to try the 183 Arv's... sure 6cm doesn't seem like a lot, but it's a better length overall..

You're 6' 2" and you think skiing on 185s is like skiing on boats? Dude, I'm 5' 5" and I ski 180s. maybe the reason the 186s you tried felt so heavy is because they were mounted 3cm away from the very tail of the ski (exazggeration)
because I like poop.

^ They were pretty far forward. Not center but pretty close. The mojos are also a super heavy stiff ski so that maybe have been the problem. I'll definitely look in to the Scratch BC but I heard those are super soft. I'm looking for something more in the middle.

BC has a new flex pattern this year but also a 98mm waist, which from the sound of things is too wide for what you're looking for... ARVs aren't skinny either, but they are light as anything. I'd suggest you demo some Pollards or Chronic Wides in a 186 (pretty much the same ski).
