A tiptronic would be great for people who don't want to have to work a clutch all the time, or share the car with someone who can't drive stick, or just likes the ease of driving an automatic when in the city or whatever.
The way I see it, automatics are lame because if you want to step on the gas, you really have to ease onto it or else it's going to hang for like a second, shift down, rev up, shift up to the gear you were just in, and then finally start to go how you intended. At least with tiptronic you can be driving in 3rd, put it to the floor and not have to worry about any of that stuff, like with a standard.
The only downside I see to a standard is traffic, especially in steep uphills if your gearbox is crap like in my '86 jetta (bushings are shot), and if you have a sore leg from injury or something it hurts to operate a stiff clutch :P
I'm such a baby, ha.
