ANALOG dont want skiing to progress

Well here it is. I work in a ski/snowboard/sk8baord shop and Analog dont want our shop to carry their brand anymore because we carry SKIS.

I think this is stupid cuz I was supporting their shit a lot because it looks great and everything and they just dont want skiing to get any bigger than that or whatever.

I dont knw if Im clear but Id like to know what you guys think about that.

did the owner make the call or the company?

did the rep change and not have a relationhsip with your shop?

did they determine that there were too many competing brands and opted out?

did the shop owner slack in payments or not properly display the product in the past?

too many questions to answer before assuming its a skier vs. boarder thing...cause shop owners dont care about that....its about selling what they order

Well, I dont knwo the perfect "picture" cuz Im only thel little bitch repairing bikes and mounting skatebaords but I asked my boss if he could lend me the analog catalog so I could order a suit for the winter and he said : we wont carry analog anymore because they dont want to be carried in a shop which also sells skis... I dont know I was just disapointed I guess..

I agree that snowbaord companies make thighter stuff, but untill we support ski brands that try to make cool stuff they'll never progress to what we want...

Anon is a totally seperate company than burton, thus why skiers are on the team. And what is odd is that there is a snowboard shop in my town that carrys mostly orage ande siver, not mostly, i mean all. It so rediculous. and then i ask they guy, "isnt Siver a ski company", (obviously i already know the answer), He responds, "well its more of a snowboard company than a ski company", I laughed and walked out.

ok, as far as i know, there HAS to be something more then that.

many shops around vt carry analog and ski stuff side by side. Analog would lose BANK by pulling their product out of all stores that carried anything ski. Its a money issue

there are companies that do, uh, do what analog may have done here, just so y'all know it's possible (though i think those aren't exactly the reasons). specialized refuses to be carried in the same shops as scott usa as far as bikes...but specialized behaves like this because scott infringed on one of their copyrights, and made an entire line of bikes based on specialized technology.

if analog closes accounts with shops over the fact that skis are carried in those same shops, then so be it, they'll be out of business rather soon. but i doubt that's why they arent carried in this particular case, and the ideas mr. wong put forth are likely some of the causes of analog's actions.

Skiers need to wear skier gear and snowboarders need to wear snowboarder gear. The only problem is that their progression has been going on much longer than ours. So give it another 2 or 3 years and our skier clothes are going to look really fucking good.

which is exactly why you posers should not buy snowboard clothing or products. It does not help our industry grow what so ever. They do nothing from an: advertising, sponsorship, film, contest, or promotion standpoint to help progress our sport. Burton should never sell their products in ski stores anyways. Jake's entire platform has been making fun of skiers. Fuck Burton and every company owned by Burton.

yeah excatly, i mean i think Siver and Orage stuff looks pretty sick now, and they havent been around nearly as long as snowboard things (i think thats right?). anyway, in the next few years i think our clothing companies will step it up even more then they have been.

What's the difference between a "ski" jacket and "board" jacket? The way I see it, we're all riding the same park and the same pow in the same kind of weather while sliding downhill on snow. This skier vs. boarder thing has got to stop. I sell Volcom to skiers and Siver to snowboarders. If you like the way a jacket looks and it fits your style, you should buy it. Support the companies that you're down with. For some that's supporting a company like Siver that was founded in Skiing. Mike's a great friend and I support Siver, but I also think Volcom and Holden make dope stuff too.

Also, Burton created the Coalition program which included Analog as a product collection that would be sold to Snowboard Only shops. That was their plan from the beginning. They wanted to offer what they called true "core" snowboard shops that didn't carry skis a different product mix that couldn't be found at the Dicks, Garts, and Christy Sports of the world. There's nothing wrong with it. They have a huge product line that they're trying to segment into different channels of distribution. This is the same thing as when K2 skis makes a special make up of thier Apache whatever that only Garts has. This is so the specialty stores get one product mix and the big boxes get another.

Oh yeah, one last thing. Why should Analog support the progression of skiing? Siver doesn't support the progression of Snowboarding. So what. If you don't like Analog and their corporate motives, don't buy it. If you think you look steezy rockin' Analog buy it.

anon. is Burton, but heres a little insight in how things work.

every company is run as its own seperate company out of the same building in Burlington. Seperate budgets, seperate staff, ect.

As far as Analog, just wear what you want. I think Burton/Analog make a great product and it's definately what im wearing next year

I not saying that they need to support newschool skiing. i am saying that they don't put any money into our industry in any way. They dont run ads in our magazines, pay for riders to travel and progress the sport, or host competitions to provide exposure to the sport at all. They make a great product for snowboarders and so I dont have anything against what they do, but I will never buy snowsports equipment from a company that does not put it back into OUR industry. Newschool ski brands have enough problems as it is turning a profit, we dont need skiers putting their cash back into snowboarding. We are an organic system that requires money to circulate within if there is ever substantial growth to be seen.

here the truth of the industry...

snowboard/ski stores and companies are all the same! They market to the same people, they utilize the same factories (in most cases), they even use the sales reps...and heaven forbid sell their products next to each other...

your support or non-support of one of these companies will do nothing to change there business plan. No one cares about what is "core"...at least no one who makes the real decisions...

we must only support skiing companies...he guess what, the VAST majority of these companies are runned and owned by gaper non-skiers...it is about money that is it...

bottom line...choose the best gear for youe money...regardless of manufacturer...anything less and you are ripping yourself off

waynewong your wrong buddy, alot of board companies, surf skate and snow, want nothing to do with the skiing period. There isnt a hope in hell that richard woolcott at volcom will ever have a ski team. its a board only company. it would tarnish there image as a board only company if they had skiers. why wont lifetime clothing, burton, grenade, analog, red helmets, etc. sponsor skiers. they market themselves to board riders only. it accounts for 99% of there sales, and if letting skiing into the picture with wreck tere image with the core demographic, its a smart business decision not too. I agree though, there is bigger picture to why analog pulled out of the shop this thread was about. its just not that crazy if they did it becaused the shop isnt just a board shop.

Grenade, and Burton subcorps (that includes red and anon) already sponsor skiers. That shoots your point to shit.

The more skiers start wearing snowboard company clothing, the more they are going to recognize us and start sponsoring skiers. Maybe not every single company will do it, but just last year RED, Anon, Grenade, Dragon, Quicksilver, and probably a whack more sponsored skiers. Non of these companies started in skiing, but are here today.

Funny thing about all this is that Analog is rumored to be on the lookout for skiers to wear their gear, ha!

Pretty cool for what it says to the growth of the ski market. Burton has recinded it's "stance" (no pun intended) on three of it's companies for us:)

That honestly makes not sense at all there is something else going on because, pollard and schiller are both sponsored by Anon and RED protection and they are both owned by Burton and Analog is just a branch of Burton stuff as well.

Ok, let's clear this up really quickly.

Analog is, as previously mentioned, part of Burton's "Coalition" program. Goods in that program are sold to "CORE" snowboard shops ONLY. Burton determines what "Core" means in this case, because Burton makes the product.

It's the same thing as Orage choosing to only sell their Masters line to certain ski shops. Not all shops can get Masters, not all shops can get the Coalition line up from Burton.

Stop bitching, buy what works for you, not what's marketed "the right way". If that means Analog, then buy it. If it means Siver, then buy that.
