Volunteering Abroad

I just finished high school and I'm taking a year. During this "gap" year, I was thinking about volunteering in another country. Ie. building homes, schools, medical clinics. Etc.

Has anyone done this??? If so post about your experiences and which program you were part of. etc

I am also looking into doing that sort of thing. From what I have researched, the ones that don't require you to fundraise or pay for yourself to volunteer are religious organizations. A lot of the other organizations either require a long term commitment, 6 months to 5 years.

Look at this site http://www.peacecorps.gov/
I've been thinking about doing peace corps for a while now. Its for 27 months...the 1st 3 months are for training, basically learning the different language...you need a 4 yr. degree as well, so you wont be doing this right after college. Just look at the site, its pretty informative on whatever questions you have.
