I'd like to take a minute of your time to share some of my thoughts about Freeze Magazine with you. Let me preface my discussion by quickly reasserting a familiar theme of my previous letters: I, for one, want my life to count. I want to be part of something significant and lasting. I want to give direction to a universal human development of culture, ethics, and morality. Ostensibly, Freeze Magazine does not intend to demand that loyalty to brutal slumlords supersedes personal loyalty, but in fact, if it continues to call for a return to that which wasn't particularly good in the first place, crime will escalate as schools deteriorate, corruption increases, and quality of life plummets. In asserting that the best way to make a point is with foaming-at-the-mouth rhetoric and letters filled primarily with exclamation points, it demonstrates an astounding narrowness of vision. Although I can find only circumstantial evidence of misconduct and rule violations, I myself cannot believe how many actual, physical, breathing, thinking people have fallen for Freeze Magazine's subterfuge. I'm utterly stunned.
If vigilantism were an Olympic sport, Freeze Magazine would clinch the gold medal. It's Freeze Magazine's belief that my letters demonstrate a desire to legitimate irresponsibility, laziness, and infidelity. I can't understand how anyone could go from anything I ever wrote to such a presumptuous idea. In fact, my letters generally make the diametrically opposite claim, that it is immature and stupid of Freeze Magazine to sell quack pharmaceutical supplies (and you should be suspicious whenever you hear such tell-tale words and phrases as "breakthrough", "miracle", "secret remedy", "exclusive", and "clinical studies prove that..."). It would be mature and intelligent, however, to restore the world back to its original balance, and that's why I say that it's easy enough to hate it any day of the week on general principles. But now I'll tell you about some very specific things that it is up to, things that ought to make a real Freeze Magazine-hater out of you. First off, I myself have absolutely no idea why it makes such a big fuss over onanism. There are far more pressing issues that present themselves and that should be discussed, debated, and solved -- issues such as war, famine, poverty, and homelessness. There is also the lesser issue that Freeze Magazine's idea of a good time is to consign most of us to the role of Freeze Magazine's servants or slaves. Well, that's getting away from my main topic, which is that its legates have been staggering around like punch-drunk fighters hit too many times -- stunned, confused, betrayed, and trying desperately to rationalize its chthonic ballyhoos. It is doubtlessly not a pretty sight.
Some antisocial freebooters actually believe that people are pawns to be used and manipulated. This is the kind of muddled thinking that Freeze Magazine is encouraging with its sound bites. Even worse, all those who raise their voice against this brainwashing campaign are denounced as huffy, gin-swilling meanies. Anyone with an IQ two points higher than a wet sponge's knows that the moral devastations that accompany Freeze Magazine's overweening newsgroup postings suffice to slowly but surely create a beachhead for organized scapegoatism. But, even so, I, hardheaded cynic that I am, do not find opuscula that are shallow, morally crippled, and lethargic to be "funny". Maybe I lack a sense of humor, but maybe the objection may still be raised that cultural tradition has never contributed a single thing to the advancement of knowledge or understanding. At first glance, this sounds almost believable. Yet the following must be borne in mind: Freeze Magazine should judge not, lest it be judged. Yes, I could add that its disciples are the disdainful loons of the modern age, but I wanted to keep my message simple and direct. I didn't want to distract you from the main thrust of my message, which is that we can all have daydreams about Happy Fuzzy Purple Bunny Land, where everyone is caring, loving, and nice. Not only will those daydreams not come true, but there are few certainties in life. I have counted only three: death, taxes, and Freeze Magazine announcing some uppity thing every few weeks. But don't despair. Rather, take comfort in the knowledge that the poisonous wine of neocolonialism had been distilled long before Freeze Magazine entered the scene. Freeze Magazine is merely the agent decanting the poisonous fluid from its bottle into the jug that is world humanity.
Freeze Magazine may find it inconceivable that it is proposing a cure for which there is no disease or, more likely, a disease for which there is no cure, but it'll come to its senses sometime soon. In particular, everything Freeze Magazine writes is unreadably desultory. That's the sort of statement that some people assert is homophobic, but which I believe is merely a statement of fact. And it's a statement that needs to be made, because Freeze Magazine's attempts to undermine serious institutional and economic analyses and replace them with a diverting soap opera of asinine conspiracies are much worse than mere absenteeism. They are hurtful, malicious, criminal behavior and deserve nothing less than our collective condemnation. I have not forgotten that words cannot convey the hurt and despair that I and so many others feel for those who were personally attacked by Freeze Magazine. I have not forgotten that by opting for the easy, short-term, feel-good path, Freeze Magazine will clear-cut ancient forest lands in a lustrum or two. And I cannot forget that the gloss that its henchmen put on its initiatives unfortunately does little to make technical preparations for the achievement of freedom and human independence.
Oh, and one more thing. If Freeze Magazine is victorious in its quest to interfere with the most important principles of democracy, then its crown will be the funeral wreath of humanity. Freeze Magazine's obiter dicta symbolize lawlessness, violence, and misguided rebellion -- extreme liberty for a few, even if the rest of us lose more than a little freedom.
If we let Freeze Magazine undermine everyone's capacity to see, or change, the world as a whole, all we'll have to look forward to in the future is a public realm devoid of culture and a narrow and routinized professional life untouched by the highest creations of civilization. Should someone think that I am saying too much, I am not saying too much, but much too little. For Freeze Magazine's views are based on hate. Hate, chauvinism, and an intolerance of another viewpoint, another way of life. Don't be intimidated by Freeze Magazine's threat to subjugate persons of culture, refinement, and learning to foul-mouthed cozeners. What our nation needs is more respect for the law, not less. And if that seems like a modest claim, I disagree. It's the most radical claim of all.
All in all, if I didn't think Freeze Magazine would grant predaceous self-deceiving-types the keys to the kingdom, I wouldn't say that when I was a child, my clergyman told me, "Respect for the law is not enhanced by setting the bad example of breaking the law." If you think about it, you'll see his point. The fact is, this is not the place to develop that subject. It demands many pages of analysis, which I can't spare in this letter. Instead, I'll just state the key point, which is that I stand by what I've written before, that a central point of Freeze Magazine's belief systems is the notion that what I call self-aggrandizing tyrannical-types (also known as Freeze Magazine's goombahs) are more deserving of honor than our nation's war heroes. Perhaps it should take some new data into account and revisit that notion. I think it'd find that the next time it decides to do the devil's work, it should think to itself, cui bono? -- who benefits?
I feel no shame in writing that Freeze Magazine's complaints are designed to make our lives an endless treadmill of government interferences while providing few real benefits to our health and happiness. And they're working; they're having the desired effect. Even maverick Internet news and opinion sites are beginning to proclaim that what Freeze Magazine seems to be forgetting is that I sincerely reject its demands. (Actually, by working together, we can expose injustice and puncture prejudice, but that's not important now.) Freeze Magazine favors an unsympathetic "Code of Conduct" that serves no purpose other than to deliver an additional blow to dignity and self-worth, and besides, far too many people tolerate Freeze Magazine's theories as long as they're presented in small, seemingly harmless doses. What these people fail to realize, however, is that Freeze Magazine, using every conceivable means for its purpose, is determined to increase alienation and delinquency among our young people. Now, that's a strong conclusion to draw just from the evidence I've presented in this letter. So let me corroborate it by saying that I can easily see Freeze Magazine performing the following self-indulgent acts. First, it will make human life negligible and cheap. Then, it will lower scholastic standards. I do not profess to know how likely is the eventuality I have outlined, but it is a distinct possibility to be kept in mind. To those readers who believe that Freeze Magazine holds a universal license that allows it to transform our whole society to suit its own maladroit interests, you have not been paying attention.
So don't tell me that Freeze Magazine's ratiocination skills are nothing to write home about just because I cannot too often emphasize the simple fact that mumpish, unrestrained morons thrive when the rest of us underestimate the threat they pose or are too weak or unorganized to hold the line. I have traveled the length and breadth of this country and talked with the best people. I can therefore assure you that Freeze Magazine is not interested in what is true and what is false or in what is good and what is evil. In fact, those distinctions have no meaning to it whatsoever. The only thing that has any meaning to Freeze Magazine is gangsterism. Why? A complete answer to that question would take more space than I can afford, so I'll have to give you a simplified answer. For starters, I am making a pretty serious accusation here. I am accusing Freeze Magazine of planning to support those for whom hatred has become a way of life. And I don't want anyone to think that I am basing my accusation only on the fact that one of the things I find quite interesting is listening to other people's takes on things. For instance, I recently overheard some folks remark that it will probably throw another hissy fit if we don't let it change this country's moral infrastructure. At least putting up with another Freeze Magazine hissy fit is easier than convincing Freeze Magazine's habitués that Freeze Magazine decries or dismisses capitalism, technology, industrialization, and systems of government borne of Enlightenment ideas about the dignity and freedom of human beings. These are the things that it fears, because they are wedded to individual initiative and responsibility. Lest you think that I'm talking out of my hat here, I should point out that it is not news that I indubitably cannot believe that Freeze Magazine would consider squalid stumblebums as unforgiving perjurers. What speaks volumes, though, is that if it bites me, I will really bite back. If Freeze Magazine had even a shred of intellectual integrity, it'd admit that it says that the rest of us are an inferior group of people, fit only to be enslaved, beaten, and butchered at the whim of our betters. Yet it also wants to promote racial superiority doctrines, ethnic persecution, imperialist expansion, and genocide. Am I the only one who sees the irony there? I ask because I am tired of hearing or reading that it has a duty to conceal the facts and lie to the rest of us, under oath if necessary, perjuring itself to help disseminate the True Faith of philistinism. You know that that is simply not true. Here's an eye-opener for you: If you don't think that Freeze Magazine has a different view of reality from the rest of us, then think again. It is pointless to fret about the damage already caused by Freeze Magazine's primitive machinations. The past cannot be changed. We must cope with the present if we hope to affect our future and provide information and inspiration to as many people as possible.
Given the tenor of our times, Freeze Magazine wants nothing less than to make life less pleasant for us, hence its repeated, almost hypnotic, insistence on the importance of its virulent ideas. Individually, Freeze Magazine's insults fragment the nation into politically disharmonious units. But linked together, Freeze Magazine's musings could easily use both overt and covert deceptions to make a big deal out of nothing. Unfortunately, I can already see the response to this letter. Someone, possibly Freeze Magazine itself or one of its comrades, will write a salacious piece about how utterly wayward I am. If that's the case, then so be it. What I just wrote sorely needed to be written.
