Ski mags

do any ski mags come out in the summer like the snowobard mags do, i am stuck buying those but would rather read up on next years ski gear and get stoked out on pics or skiers.

right about now all the sept issues will start to come out for powder, freeskier, etc

oh whatta fuck is that why I have been in every shitty ass bookstore and kiosk in all of vegas, LA, aspen and snowmass without finding freeskier? shit I go out of sweden for the summer and im happy because I can pick up a new issue of a decent ski mag and its not even out.. shit

I can offer a little insight on why ski mags don't do summer issues. Most advertising in ski magazines comes from within the ski industry, and the ski companies don't believe people buy products after christmas. Snowboard mags get a lot of shoe and lifestyle apparel ads (DC, DVS, Etnies, etc), and snowboard companies seem to have a better attitudes toward year-round riding. We're doing our best to convince the industry that skiing has become a year-round passion (saw some kids hitting a kicker the the Crested Butte backcountry just this weekend), but as always, it's a slow process.

Plus the fact that snowboard mags have about a gazillion times as much money as ski magazines do.

haha, this is funny cuz just yesterday I went to look for the new ski magazines...and noone had them yet--jus snowboard ones...I consider August as over the hump of the worst of the summer cuz it's when the new ski mags always start comin out. I love August! (but I like December better)

do you remember the thread about halfpipe in the olympics...if it was then we would have summer magazine issues. skiing would be in a higher demand and magazines would put out summer issues because its more affordable. the "newschool movement" isn't that relatively large. they don't put them out because not enough people by them.

Ski Time is going to be the ill shizzle nizzle... if you haven't already subscribed, go to www.skitimemag.com and that puppy will be in your hot little hands before you can say "RIP FREEZE."

schradical is right - the Olympics are only one part of it, but it's a good example as to why snowboarding mags have more issues and are twice the size of ski mags. More exposure = more interest = more snowboarders = more companies = more money = better magazines.
