Travis Rice makes skiing look foolish

I guess technically this is old news but FUCK, i just watched Absinthe Films' "Pop" for about the 1000th time, and Travis Rice pretty much singlehandedly makes our sport look dumb. If you haven't seen the movie, check it out: he does all the stuff skiers have been talking about doing for the last 5 years... backside 180's in the middle of GNAR lines into sw. cork 5's off really tall cliffs and windlips and stuff, crazy butters, manuals and tricks off double stage cliffs etc! Not to mention the double rodeo over Pyramid. Not to mention being the first snowboarder to ever hit Chad's and then proceeding to make children cry as he killed the gap harder than any skier EVER (sw cork 7's, big cork 5's and rodeos etc.) like seriously, until tanner sw 9'd chad's i thought there was no hope for skiing. Maybe there is, but until we catch up, Travis Rice is making us all look silly.

A 180 on a snowboard is very different from on skiis. It is never going to be as smooth as snowboarding because when you get good, a 180 on a snowboard is just like landing forward again. Your legs dont bend backwards so landing backwards on skiis is never going to be natural.
Skiing has boarding beat a lot of times but obviously not always.

why is everyone saying that switch is easier on a snowboard. def not. its more natural because you dont have to look backwards, def not easier.

Thats just retarded. How many skiers do you know that ride switch naturally? Some snowboarders ride goofy naturally. That should tell you something. I doubt you've ever wake or snowboarded...

Travis rice is definatly one of the most progressive snowboarders. but think of this. when a snowboarder skis switch he is still facing sideways like he is regular. wen a skier skis switch he is facing up the hill. and wat about andy marhe's zero spin over pyramid. thats crazy cuz zero spins are fukin hard

THE Real deal ... is that I saw that movie and even if Rice does or does not make us look silly, he makes the rest of the riders in that same movie look silly as well ... and OMG wouldn't ya know it, they're Sssnowboarders ... gasp

point is that some people are just pimp and bring it to another level, he happens to be pimp. If you havent noticed, there's a couple pimp skiers too ... gee, wonder who, cough, T Hall.

Travis does not handle the same level of lines that Jeremy Nobis or Jeremy Jones or any of those guys do. He is great, but he is not on that level yet big mountain wise. Jeremy Jones still beats him by a wide margin for the best big mountain snowboarder, and until that changes it cannot be said that he is on the same level as Seth, Nobis, McConkey, and of those guys. He is sick though.

I haven't seen Travis Rice ride Morrison Hotel but lets face it Seth takes him and makes him look like a loser I mean you don't see rice hucking rodeo 7's or backflips off 100 ft cliffs and scholler did the 1440 you dont see rice doin that either. I HATE rice i snowboard and ski too but to me he's a arrogant fag i skip his part in the dc movie everytime he's good but he's not what the sports are about he's bringing negative into the positive if you know what I mean.

although remember, switch on a snowboard isnt NEARLY as impressive as on skis. i have snowboarded, and i skate all the time, i know its hard, but skiers are going down gnarly lines BACKWARDS! way different

you know how much easier it is to do 180s in big mountain lines on a snowboard than it is on skis it doesn't even compare so much shit is way easier on a snow board pep is right behind him and i'd say peps progressed more cuz what he is doing is way harder

sorry, but
#1) "tanners/jon's footie of chads" is definatly not as gnarly as travis's. sure its sick, but i dont see them double cork 1080ing it.

#2) landing on a snowboard is NOT easier than landing on skis. We CANNOT land backseat, a little to the side, etc...if we land in any position other than basically stomped, we have to revert or washout.

#3) Im not sure where you've been for the last few years, but i have a ton of skier friends who center mount their skis......

#4) Sure, t-rice may not be doing lines as big as seth or hugo, but unfortunatly, Seth and Hugo cant do half the tricks rice can do. i give them mad respect, but thats ALL they do. Rice is extremely well rounded.

so please quit being such a doosh and trying to talk like you know what your talking about.."Snowboards are more center mounted, and respond similarily in both directions, with similar body positions.." your 100% bullshit my friend. i wouldnt say most of this stuff if you hadnt brough it up, but you just HAD to bring up some of the worst points ever, so i just had to beat them down. i dont think "travis rice makes skiing look foolish," but i definatly think he kills it.

(ps. i didnt read all of the posts, so if this was already said and responded to, dont hate).

I know this is an old thread but I would still have to agree that T RICE is doing shit on a snowboard that no one on skis has ever even thought of doing. After watching thats it thats all, I have sooooo much respect for the guy and snowboarding.

t rice's body control is absolutely insane, but skiers boost bigger, carry more speed, spin MORE, and as a whole are pushing their sport more in different ways then a single snow boarder on the other side of the spectrum.  henrik spun a switch 1620? seriously the kid is super young and off the chain...you cant compare the 2.  rice is going to be a legend in his sport...dont get me wrong.  but that has nothing to do with how quickly skiing is progressing in recent years

this is a ridiculous thread, skiing and snowboarding have their specific advantages but saying he makes skiing look silly is fucking retarded            i say if u want a comparison saying one is silly look at half pipe   skiiers been doing it for less time and there is no one throwing straight airs in the final since like 3 years ago    and last year tanner droping in switch on skis in the pipe, holy shit      its different than on a snowboard because i do both and there is a big difference being completely backward on skis looking over your fucking shoulder to see whats behind you and bieng sideways on a board    your looking forward at the same angle your stance is just switced to other leading foot rice is soo sick and is definately does make some skiiers look silly but believe me alot of people would say the same a bout tanner if the same comparison was beeing used

that being said, what about when EP and his crew strap on snowboards in Idea and do the same shit they do?  Not comparing this to everything boarders can do, but just showing that it can be interchangable...and skiing is 1000000x cooler looking and more technically difficult, IMO of course

nah i definitely didn't vote for washouts this year at X.

i just made this thread awhile back when skiers were still talking about it, and travis rice was busy doing it. you have to admit that three years ago, the shit he was doing was next level compared to what we were doing.

but since then, things have come a hell of a long way. considering the level of skiing in the pipe, on park jumps and rails, and the way rockers have really opened up tricks in the backcountry, i definitely wouldn't make this same thread today. haven't seen that's it that's all but it seems like skiers are pretty damn on point these days.
