Why shouldnt I buy MSP movies?

those people just cant stand big moutain, usualy cus they cant ski it or never have and dont have any idea of the challange or skill necessary, msp has got sick flicks in my opinion, so go by it.

i heard they miss spelled some names in one or a few of their movies. its no reason to not buy them, i have yearbook and i love it. they make great movies.

I like their movies, they are different because of the big mountain skiing, and i like that. But they have slow motion in every shot, that sucks.

Just my opinion but..

Since I end up doing ALOT of stuff on the business side of skiing now, I know how it is with movie sponsors and athletes in films, ect

I just cannot believe that MSP pulls half the shit they do. There is a large difference between a film like 1242 (all Oakley), and the shenanigans (yes, i said shenanigans) they pull with HH and Salomon/K2 as sponsors.

MSP is taking what should be a purely fun job, and infusing it with such deals where they are actually altering skiings direction (athletes sign with NEW companies to ride in a MSP film)

if Steve Winter has any say in the direction of skiing, then I dont feel good about where he can make things head.

And i've never met him, he might be a great guy...but i'm not big on the way they choose to handle things. I mean we help the film companies our athletes are IN (not talking about my movie and THAT job), we dont say "you ride for X company, or you arent getting incentives). I dont believe that telling a skier he has to be sponsored by certian companies is good for our sport. Hell, its like the Olympics and their 'favorite' sponsors.

So yeah, leave politics outve our sport as much as possible, cause I just dont like it


The year 1242 Was released it out sold MSp hence the big commotion and distibution fiasco that entailied last year with wski106 removing the top gun footage from the orginal... once again msp whinning to get their way.


In Brief To My knowledge.....

1. 1242 outsold the msp through VAS Distribution that year.

2. MSP was bitter the next year that a PBP movie outsold them more or less and saw the advanced copy of Wski106 As VAS Was putting it up for distribution, steve winter more ore less called up VAS and said if they sold WSKI106 without having Iberg take out The Sampled Scenes From Top GUN in it, then they would not have VAS Distribute Their movies never again, and since ski movies have been distributed Through VAS MSP has sold the most overall making them a Client that VAS would want to have so they can make money. The issue here is that MSP called out the athletes and people that he works with in the industry making him less of a man then to rather progress mpvies and the skiing then to rather make a few more bucks then the other guy. the issue here is GREED..

the real reason for the hate was that, VAS puts their top seller on the cover, so they were going to put pbp on the cover the next year, but msp wasn't havin that, so they told vas that if pbp was on the cover then msp would be going elsewhere.

as for the top gun shit, yeah they just just flat out called em out on it. which in this small ski world is bull shit.

I don't really know what the big deal is then.
As distastefull as it is, this kind of shdy dealings are the backbone of modern western economic and political culture. Companies that maintain a purely clean slate ethically always go under.
What MSP is accused of doing is mild compared to other sports gear manufacturers antics, and my experience with them, having spoken to some pros, and people who have worked with them, they seem to be the exact company you would expect from an extreme sports filmaking crew. So stop the hating and realise that this is corporate america and MSP is maintaining a relatively ethically pure company. That and they make the best movies out there

I think what really gets them is how small the ski industry is and when a company does that (or someone in that company) they take it very personally.

i think its stupid how people say "they suck because they do big mountain lines" or similar to that. They dont suck just because u dont like what they put in their movie, personaly, i thought yearbook was a sweet movie along with focused. I think people need to buy a movie depending on what they like and what they wanna c, not if the producers are "ass holes" or whatever.

I'm not a competition lawyer but, coercion is not only unethical and an unacceptable business practice, but is also anti-competitive.. and borderline illegal. someone correct me if i'm wrong please

They would have to flat out say, "If you do A, then B will happen" for there to be a solid case for coercion and it would have to be written down or recorded in some way for it to be really admissable in court otherwise it would just be hearsay. MSP doesn't have to flat out tell the company that they are going to do something, in fact that is the worst way of doing business, all you have to do is put the rumor out there and if you have as much industry clout as msp you get your way without having to actually say or do anything

It's all just personal opinion. I used to like their movies when they were pretty much the only movies out on the market (at least that I had heard about). After seeing Poorboyz films and others I just realized I didnt like MSP's editing style as much. They are very long movies which isn't that bad, but like a lot of people my favorite parts in ski movies are generally in the park. MSP still has a ton of straight powder shots. Cliffs of course are awesome to watch as well and there are a lot of those, but then they'll throw in some skier who doesn't have a crazy segment like some of the others and it just throws off the whole movie, drags it out and makes it boring.

I like MSP's movies and HitList looks pretty cool...the trailer was catchy as shit. PBP, Plehouse and the rest all kick ass too.

I think there is too much skarachuting(sp). Its kinda cool the first few times but it just gets old but if you like it buy the movie.

my quarrel with msp is that their movie format is tired.
when we on NS say ski movie 17 is coming out, we mean it.

oh, and i personally think thei trailer was super lame.
