i like MCR a lot on CD, but i've got to say that they are horrible live. no energy, skipping verses and entire parts to songs, shitty sound mixing..everything. it's a shame, because they have a great sound, but just can't seem to pull it together on stage.

well, the first time was at the Taste of Chaos tour in Philadelphia, and the second was at Warped in Minneapolis, MN. maybe i just got a bad couple of shows, but from talking to a few other people who've seen them more than i have, it seems like that's thier shows every time. who knows.

i have a cool idea... lets make fun of every single genre of music that has artists writing about a breakup with their significant other. let me tell you, the list will be long and i can gaurantee that every single person who has made a negative "emo" comment will have a favorite band on that list.

oh i know, that's just fucked up.. some people need hobbies or something instead of playing the wrist violin, but i'm just arguing my point to prove that not all of the bands that everyone calls 'emo' are in fact 'emo' bands. to clasify everything that's not hardcore maggots infesting the dead kind of music (and there's another stereotype..but just to make a point) into one big category and call it "emo" because they sing about real life doesn't make much sense.

i know that a new genre of music is actually called 'emo', but that refers to stuff like dashboard confessional and the like... what i don't understand is how "emo" can cover the huge distance from something like dashboard to fall out boy to senses fail to the used to underoath. there's 4 different styles of music right there.

i'm not saying that anyone has to like a certain type of music, but just respect it for what it is enough to learn more about it before you start making fun of an entire group of people just because their taste in music is different from yours, ya know?

of course a live recording will suck.. it always will. the audio is mixed for the best possible sound when you're standing in the middle of the crowd, not what it sounds like on a recording. when sound people mix a show live, they make it sound good with the area's acoustics in mind... a recording of a live show takes every sound that the instruments make literally.

if you liked MCS at first, go with your original thought... they are actually pretty damn good live.

seriously man, you listen to most reggae bands, i dont really know any by name but a few of my friends are always playing live cds, they are fucking GOOD musiscians, they can play a song any kinda way they want, happy, sad, angry, mellow, and a lot of times theyll change it mid performance, and theyre shit aint easy to play, most of the lead shit is pretty technically hard, and they have some fucking insane guitarists, but MY FUCKING WEAK ASS ROMANCE, plays all their shit one way from what ive seen, maybe their studio recordings have a little variation but definetly not their live shit, maybe if they played music enough to know how to convey real emotion(and the full spectrum of it) in their shit i wouldnt waste my time here talking shit, but i fucking hate these people i wish failure upon them and hope they all find something fullfilling to do far away from music, seriously, theres this venue where i live that wont allow non emo groups to play there, straight they sent my band an email that we couldnt play cause we were rock & roll, so you know what we did, we took no more that 2 hours on recording 4 emo songs and sent them too the people under a different name and their just short of sucking our dicks to get us to play, music is soo much more than whining about bullshit petty problems on top of a 4 chord boring ass rythm progression, i can play a single 3 note lick that would make you cry no matter who you are, music is about taking an idea, a feeling, a current affair and making it into sound, you listen to machine gun by jimi hendrix and you feel the pains of the equal rights movement and the vietnam war, and theres only like 6 lines of lyrics in that 12 minute song (and jimi didnt have set lyrics for his music, he was more about the feeling of the sounds than the meaning of his words, which is fucking bad ass), listen to the doors perform live and every aspect of their music will trip your fucking ballls off, and you listen to the 25 minute or whatever it is version of dazed and confused and youll lose your damn mind, music can be so much more powerful than what its dilluted too today, its fucking pathetic

yeah same here to a point. just because it's not what makes you feel such heavy emotion or whatever doesn't mean someone else doesn't feel differently about it. personally, i respect guitarists that you described and i think they play excellent music, but it's not what gets to me. to each their own, it's personal preference i guess.

warped tour is now officially to warped, it started out as punk, ska, and reggae for the most part, but they would let others in if they kept it real, now its just a bunch of sell outs, true there is still bands in the tour that deserve it like big d, the unseen, gold fish dont bounce, ect....and any singer that tries to look pale and make himself as close to a girl as he can should be shot.

I love MCR and all other warped tour band they rock my socks. I love how they were black suits and mascara even in the summer to represent there pain and suffering! I mean they really talk about the important issues. I cant wait till they go on tour again.
