Ok, so Tiger walks around a fucking golf coarse in fucking Khakis and sports illistarted dares to put him in the same category as a man who rides 2,000+ miles on a bike for nearly every day?? Pure bullshit.

I agree with you. I figured there were guys who tried to do it all and maybe some who were really good at it.

As far as Lance vs. Tiger, I don't really have an opinion on that. Just too different for me to care.

There are so many things wrong with people's ideas. first of all many of you are pointing out that lance armstrong is the most physically fit person in the world, that does not necessarily mean that he is the best athlete in the world. And Bermbuster, dude you have to be kidding me, and yes I used to race, but dirtbike racing being one of the most physically demanding sports out there....give me a break. Probably one of the reasons all of the kids throwing up, is because they are so unfit that any physical exertion, tires them out like hell. I'll stand by my word when I say that the best athletes out there are soccer players. They have to do everything, run, jump, sprint,you name it they do it, and if you are playing soccer at a competitive level there really isn't any time when you are stationary, during the whole match. Yes it might be only a hour and a half but you run up to 15 miles during that 90 minutes.

and i bet you used to race motorcross...with your 15 minute moto's, try offroad, do a year of harescrambles, then come back and tell me that offroad dirtbike racing isnt one of the most physically and mentally demanding sports.

Tiger Woods just won the BRITISH open that is not in the USA its in Europe which means Tiger is competing against the best in the wrold. to back up this agrument 3 of the best 5 golfers in the world r not form the USA and tiger beats them consistently

Someone said "lance rides a bike well but what else does he do?"

Lance started his career as a triathlete and later on stayed with bikes. Lance Bikes well, Runs Well, swims well, jumps well. hes definilty an all around athlete

plus the fact that he did all that both before and after fighting cancer just makes it that much more impressive.

maybe if Tiger had arthiritis and still played maybe he would get some more credit but he still wouldnt be anywhere near Lance's level

yeah and heres part of an article i found on the internet.

There are many different things that make a motocross racer: Strength,Endurance,Concentration and Cajones. A fast racer must have all of these attributes. A physically srong rider with no endurance will have a blazing fast first two laps but then tire out and fall to the back of the pack. A rider with endurance but no stregnth will have a tough time getting out of tricky situations. If a rider cannot concentrate, he will begin to make mistakes. If a rider doesn't have the cajones, he won't be willing to do what it takes to win the race. Motocross is the second most physically demanding sport in the world, second to soccer. If you have ever ridden a few laps on a motocross bike you would know why. Alot of people think that all that is involed is climbling on and twisting the throttle. Not true. You are also responsible for a two hundred pound machine pushing forty horse power. That takes a lot of energy.

^that proves absolutely nothing, of course they are going to glorify the sport the whole magazine is about. How in anyway shape or form is motocross more physically demanding then a triathlon, a marathon, the tour de france? once you prove that I will maybe start to accept that it is a hard sport.

In the book "Mr. Motocross", Torsten Hallman discusses an in-depth study done by the Swedish Physical Sports Institute and even had photos of some of the riders undergoing testing. There were a large number of individual tests, not just running on a treadmill. They measured oxygen consumption, the ability of the body to transfer that oxygen to the muscles, etc. It was quite a comprehensive set of tests and is the study to which most are referring.

The conclusions were that soccer was first, with motocross a strong second.

hey, it was in a book! haha, yeah idk about the triathletes and stuff, i would think they are up there, but is that stuff considered a sport? or an event?

yeah cause The Tour de France is in the US right?

The Tour de France is competing against the best in the world in a race that is probably the most physically demanding race ever. very few of the people even finish the race.

Tiger goes against a bunch of rich overweight guys (although less fat guys are in the sport now) he plays 18 holes which ive played golf twice and I can finish 18 holes if I wanted too. where as ive been riding bikes all my life and I cant finish the tour de france

if Motocross isnt a sport by the same standards skiing isnt a sport. we dont use any of our own energy to make them slide so it must not be a sport. right?

^great point, it takes a lot of finesse and strength to get a dirt bike to do what you want, just like ski racing where you are fighting gravity

every sport chalenges the body. If it were EASY it would not be a sport. Some sports are more of a mental game than a physical game. Yes Lance has a tougher physical sport that Tiger Woods, but that makes him more of a machine, you can tune your body into the physical fittness that you're sport demands, but it is a lot tougher to find the focus and mental ability to stay "in the zone" to do that activity. Tiger has more mental fittness. What is more important you decide, you need both to win.

bikin is gay... golf is so much harder than ridin a bike. anyone can ride a bike, golf u need to know how to actually swing a club. bikin u just ride and let gravity take u unless u go uphill

That was my point, he was compairing his golf game to tigers, saying it wasnt hard for him to finnish a round of golf, well it's not hard to ride a bike, just because you can ride a bike without breaking a sweat doesnt mean you're riding on par with lance

hey retard, a round of golf is only hard if ur in a wheel chair, theres no difference between me playing 36 holes and tiger playing 36 holes, activity wise its exactly the same, its not like tiger climbing a mountai to get to each hole. what i said before was, me playing golf:same as tiger playing golf riding around town: lance riding 200 miles doing climbs i wouldnt walk up, se the difference?

wow have you read anything i wrote. I said that golf is not as physicaly demanding as a bike race. golf is a mental game. Tiger is going to have to keep himself on his game for so much longer to acomplish what lance has done in cycling.

Lance is stronger, but since when does strength alone define you as an athlete. Tiger woods has to go through amazing amounts of training and discipline to maintain where he is, at the top.
I think that lance however has acheived more in his area. Battling cancer and setting a new world record at seven straight tour de france victories is incredible, but by the time woods retires, who knows where he will be

Don't even dare compare the two. If you fully understood what Lance Amstrong came up against, you would have a deep level of respect for the man. Not just as an athlete, but as a man with an amazingly inspirational story.

His first race he did as a pro, he received dead last. But he used it as fuel to try harder. In 96 he had testicular cancer. He had to get one of his testicles removed. On top of that, the cancer spread to his brain and he was given losing odds to live. With news like that, most people out there would have fallen into depression and give up. He did not give up or let it drag him down.

Instead, he returned to cycling and entered the Tour De France. One of the most physically exhausting and challenging courses in the world. Over 2,200 miles of competitve non-stop racing through the Alps with constant hill climbs and elevation changes. He has dominated it and won 6 soon to be 7 (I believe?) times.

ok this time im going to argue on the side of golf. I already stated above that I think that Lance is a much greater athlete than Tiger. but....

Golf is a sport and you have to mix acuracy with strength. being able to hit a tiny ball with a club 400 yards within feet or inches of your target although is very tough. it requires no stamina. but your movement has to be amazingly precise. and that although it doesnt require huge amounts of muscle does require alot of skill.

Tiger is an amazing athlete in his own right but lances sport includes the skills that are needed in golf (precision, mental trengh, dealing with pressure) plus many more. and those things that lance has extra is what makes him so much better than Tiger.

and cause your ass was probably in a cart, there both sports in their own rights and its like comparing LeBron and MJ it just isnt good, i do say that how many other cycling events have you heard of lance winning none, how many different major golf tourneys has tiger won all four plus countless other events, its just a bad comparison. and yes golfing is much more mental a sport, you have 13 clubs to worry about and an infinite number of situations and shots you can play, cycling is more physically toughi respect both athletes greatlybut just look at it like this

Some of you guys are really fuckin retarded. They are two completely different sports. Saying I'd like to see Tiger ride in one stage of the Tour De France is like saying I'd like to see Lance be in the top 30 of the British Open. And to the guy that said so what my grandmother swings a golf club every weekend, then so what I can ride a bicycle. They are both incredible athletes that are at the top of their game, leave it at that. I'd call it a tie.
