Should I...trade my Xterra for a Jeep?

So I have an 02 Xterra. I have had it since it was brand new. It is nice and all, but it doesn't have 4wd. I would have gotten in as a 4X4, but it was kind of a suprise birhtday present for me so I didn't have a say. I have recently been contemplating trading it strait up for an 01 or 02 Wrangler or an 00 Grand Cherokee 4x4. What do you guys think? I am worried about how the Wranglers handle on ice/snow. Any body know anything about this?

when we rented a 4wd grand jeep cheroke up in vail for a week it was soo bad..i think it was an 01 and it sucked in the snow

fuck man 4wd is soo sweet in winter. i love just blowing past everyone in a foot of snow when they can barely stay in control.i would say think about the grand cherokee

Jeeps are soooo much sicker then xterras, BUT a nissan will run much longer with much less problems than a jeep. But, fuck that, get the jeep.

one thing wranglers wont flip that easy on ice or snow they will slide just as much as any othe RWD SUV. If your gonna get a Grand Cherokee get a 00 or a 01 4.7L H.O. V8, the 4x4 on the V8 are great in the snow.





I'll drive it untill the wheels fall off, then I'll buy new wheels!

Keep the xterra, you'll be happier in the long run. Nissian's engines last a lot longer, and as mentioned before, jeeps can flip easily.

It is rear wheel drive. I normally put about 120-180 pounds of sand over the back wheels in a duffle bag to insure traction during the winter and I haven't had too many problems. Oh, and I don't know the point of 2wd suvs. If I had a say in it, I definitely would have wanted a 4x4, but since it was a present I didn't complain.

maybe see bout trding it for a 4wd xterra? might have to toss a lil extra money on the table, but that would be the best of both worlds. the 4wd versions are fuckin burly, and will blow a jeep outtta the water off road.

the only reason people think wrangles flip easy is because if your going down the inerstate or something going like 75 and turn sideways to avoid a fucking rabbit or something then they flip easier then something else but thats just because your a fucking dumbass and wanted to save a bunny and the only other way you could role it is like rock climbing shit or something which you probably dont do anyhow

Ive got an 01 limited GC. Wouldnt trade it for anything. I couldnt afford new tires this winter... and the thing still fuckin blew threw nasty roads... with bald tires.

4wd is great.

until you try to stop. then you're twice as fucked as other cars because you and your 4wd got cocky and blew past them. and don't call ABS on me. ABS is for people who can't drive. along with automatics. those suck too.

yes, 4wd/AWD does handle better, if you know how to drive it. problem is that 90% of the people that have it, don't.

which is why I drive an AWD 5 speed Subaru Impreza Coupe. absolutely rips in good weather, handles shit weather without a problem.

plus the inline 6 will last longer if you take care of it

ok dude here's the downlow. do you use it mainly for gettin to the mt. and back? if so the xterra will do you fine so long as it's 4wd. jeep will absolutely put the xterra to shame in any other off road conditions due to the straight axle front/rear meaning more axle articulation, not to mention a shorter wheelbase.
xterras have IFS (independent front suspension) which is great onroad but blows off; absolutely no articulation. mainly the xterra is a weekend warrior vehicle, it'll get you to the resort and back, but if you feel like goin over the top of the damn mountain, get a jeep

If you say money is tight, then dont get a Jepp. It#ll cost you in the long run. Old jEPPS break. But fuck i dont go anywhere without 4Wheeldrive anymore either. So sell the twoby and get a four by four if you want to get to the hill in any weather.

If its an 02 xterra trade it in for 00 4wd xterra. But if you say you haven't had a problem with the 2wd, maybe just don't even worry about it.

And to the dude who said a wrangler won't flip in any case other than a dramatic swerve to avoid a rabbit, thats just not true. The rollover factor applies to most accidents, not just dramatic handling ones. There's tripped rollover when you hit something and flip and then there's untripped rollover like swerving. Wranglers are shitty for both.

get a jeep wrangler, put bigger wider tires on it, and a supercharger. it's what my friend has and it's just fucking awesome, i love that. good in the winter too, i'd say go for it. def. supercharge it too
