This band is pretty much my favorite right now. Gay as it may sound I heard them on the OC but they are really good. If you like the Frau Frau track on the Garden State soundtrack you love this band. Check out their new album Set Yourself On Fire my favorite tracks are Going Going Gone, One More Night, Your Ex-lover is Dead, and The Big Fight. They titles may sound a little emoish but this band is all about cool vocals and amazing instermentals. Check them out, seriously.

Arcade Fire is way better, but Stars has some potential.

you get no points for having learned about them from the oc. you get even more minus points for comparing them to a track off the garden state soundtrack. none the less, yes they are amazing.

a: whats wrong with the garden state soundtrack
b: we all have to find out about a band one way or another. is it really a "problem" that it came off of the oc?

this isn't exactly the nicest way of putting it, but some people get it and some people don't. if you can't see how learning about music from the trendiest mainstream mtv factory television show isn't inherently discrediting, then you probably aren't ever going to get it. it seems blatantly obvious to me - not to mention not remotely radical - but hell, i guess it earns good musicians more money.
its really not far off learning about music from tv commercials.

i do understand what your saying. i just have an opposing view on music. i have a friend like you named tom. (he doesnt ski). once a group makes it big and "sells out" he distances himself from them immediatly. the concretes, an amazing indie band from sweden, you probablly know them, i saw on a target commercial, and heard another of their songs in the gap at the mall. well tom wont listen to them anymore.
i dont know if you understand what im trying to say. you are taking music in college, so im sure you know alot more about the accepted views on music. going to college for music is an amazing thing. i dont know if i'd consider it, but it must be fufilling if you have the passion for it. i just believe music should not be judged on how successful it becomes. to be a musical artist, that is a job. and you need to be paid. playing small shows and selling discs out of the back of your car wont do it. i believe if i band has the talent to have its music sold commercially, then more power to it. my friend once said "meaning is what you make it". and i think it applies here. i dont like to discriminate against a type of music, unless im just joking around. underlying all of this is what i believe music is about. hearing a song and liking it. i think people should listen to music because it makes them happy. because it fills them, inspires them. i also dont believe he/she should be riduculed for liking an independent band if he hears there song in a way that isnt really "independent". it is a tad hypocritical, but does it really make a difference one way or another?

That's everything I've ever wanted to say about the Garden State soundtrack and OC compilations.
