Tom Cruise: Psychiatry: Pseudo Science.

Before Yesterday I thought Tom Cruise was one of the better stars in hollywood, then last night I the news, he was lashing out wanting all psychiatry drugs abolished and ridiculed the treatment. I thought this was excessive and incorrect. He was disgusted how people believe in "such a pseudo science".

He's entitled to his opinion but condemning psychiatry altogether is overboard. there would be alot more troubled people in the world without i think.

if you actually care about the life of celebrities than you are no better than those 300 lb. big mommas that live in trailer parks.

I live in a place far far away, where on occasion the telly tubbies will come to play....and that's when Ma gets out the shotgun. Damn critters climb in our gutter system all the time.

did u guys see when he got sprayed in the face with water by those guys pretending to interview him. he acted mature and made them feel ashamed of what they had done. i thought that was really cool how he didnt just get one of his enturage members to make sure they got arrested like 98% of celebs would do. i didnt see the interview ur talking about tho

digging up this old thread because recently I have studied this as i've had encounters with psychiatrists and started to smell Bullshit!!!!!!

For starters, the psychiatry bible aka the dsm is kind of a joke. Not sure which dsm it was, but at one point, the dsm considered homosexuality a mental disease of the mind. They have since removed this criteria as society has softened it's grip on homosexuality........no homo.

other laughable disorders in the dsm are "oppositional defiant disorder", attention deficit disorder, etc etc. basically any human action that isnt perfect or neutral is a disease of the mind. kind of rediculous, and way overboard.

I do believe that severe mental illness should be classified and treated, like manic depression aka bi polar, schitzofrenia {sp?}, and deep clinical depression should be treated, but all in all it's entirely guesswork.

When you meet a psychiatrist you are putting your life in someones hands that essentially doesnt really know you, there are no blood tests, or brain scans that show that any such disorders actually do exist, hence the pseudo science term.

The new dsm comes out this may, and its the 5th edition revised, and took over 10 years to make. new definitions of addiction are "gaming and internet addiction", so all you addicted newschoolers could have "a mental disease of the mind". Come on now. there has to be a line drawn, and no i'm not at all into scientology, i'm into the truth and reality, discuss................
