How different is college from High School??

I know there are many people on this site who are in college and many who are in high school. I am going ot be a senor in high school next year and I was just wondering what are the major differences between high school and college. Sports, academics, life?

Just bored and wondering.

the work load is much more difficult, you actually have to study (if you go to a decent university). For me ,the partying was about equal. Many many more girls to choose form though.

think of it this way...

you sign up for this thing and they put you in a building with like 2,000 other kids your age where you all sleep in the same building. no ones parents are within hundreds of miles and its everyones first time away from home.
you have like 16 hours per week of required anything (classes) so you might as well go cause its the second best time to meet girls.
then the weekends roll around and the upperclassmen are all having parties trying to get freshman girls to come over and so you go with them and drink for free- and in turn meeting more girls.

i dunno, its fuckin awesome. way better than high school i thought cause its more real life shit rather than "are you mad at me or something" drama like ^ said

Its so increadably diffrent in post secondary education. The second biggest diffrence for me was the 15 hours of class a week, that leaves you lots of time for other shit (which should have at least 15 hours of studying, if not 30... which still leaves a hell of a lot of free hours in the week). and the fact that there would always be a party, eery night of the week. and not shitty parties either, like off the wall crazzyness. But partying does eat up your money reallly damn fast. The biggest diffrence though was not having to go for a 15 minute drive to get to my friends room, everyone who i hung out with lived eiter 15 seconds away or 4 minutes away in a diffrent building. It means more distractions, but if you can have a good ballance between work and fun, then your fine. My favortie part, because of my schedual, I had 3 day weekends all year long. fuck yah.

Regarding the sports and stuff, its alot more intense, mostly because the people playing them have been playing them for a long time and have alot more game time experience, Sporting events also create a perfect atmospher for partying and heckeling, two of my favorite pasttimes.

oh yah, and the way to not flunk out your first year is to not think of it as a camp where you go to just have fun. Its not a camp. You have to remember that your there to learn first, and partying is just a reward to, or a biporduct of, your hard work.

Man, university in the UK sounds so much easier.

I had 8 weeks of classes a week, not even compulsory. You only need to average above 40% to pass the first year. Then to get what is regarded as a pretty good final degree, you only need 60%.

Plus parties literally every night, and obviously over here you can get into bars from about 15 years old anyway!!

^haha i accaully found that 7th grade was harder than 8th. but then again this year was crazy, our whole class decided to like not work some days and out teacher went psyco, gave us all A's and said he was quitting. then we had like different subs all year so we didnt do anything anyway. it was a pretty good year.

College is like the greatest thing ever. Mainly because of the girls though godDAMN! Atleast in Boston. Shit is always going off. People are always down to party. The workload is always a bitch but generally you can find a nice balance between work and partying despite the fact that drunken paper writing is inevitable. Living in the dorms the first year was DOPE, you get to meet sooo many people and its such a great way to meet the ladies. I lived in a pretty small dorm, only like 700 or so kids and I practically met a new girl from the building every week for the entire year, literally until the last day when I was moving out. Anyway, after about a day of being in the dorms you realize that there is just a plethora of untapped hiney (if your school has a good male:female ratio, mine is about 65% female and its rediculously awesome because its like a huge arts/media production school so there is a ton of gay dudes who are all into their theatre so there is just an absurd amount of available girls). At first when school started the weekend for me was the usual fri-sun however by the end of college I realized that my weekends generally began on tuesday and end sunday night. Sure its a lot of work but it really is worth it to get some decent grades in HS so that you can get into a banging college. I was going to go to some crappy state school but I decided to put in the extra effort to get into a doooope ass school (Emerson) in Boston and I couldn't be happier.

emerson. sounds dope. i know nothing about it. i just now that the out of state costs for u of m are raping, i can give more consideration to colorado, utah, vermont, or something in massachusetts. i have a 3.8 and am caucasian. im in alot of extra curlicilar shit and plan to do more in indiana. but i'm getting out of that state as soon as i can.

Everyone seems to say they have to study alot and ive never studied in highschool. Ive tried for exams but when i sit down i just feel im looking at shit i already know and im just wasting my time. Was anyone else like this and is it hard to change study habbits?

College is pretty much 10 times crazier than you can imagine (or least it was for me). I knew it was going to be fun, but really I had no idea. So many parties and great times. A lot less time spent in class and great flexibility with my schedule meant a lot more skiing for myself. And classes have basically no busy work, but lots of reading which you may or may not have to do depending on your prof. Then basically it is just lots of studying for exams and papers. If you keep up with your work, its not a whole lot harder. College is sick, but a lot of work as well.
