Government Land Issue (Thing)

I'm not trying to start a partisan debate or anything (this isn't really a partisan issue) but, what do you kids think of local governments being able to seize privately owned land and hand it over to other private owners for most likely economic developement if it's "for the public good". I think it is somewhat fucked up but good be ok in some cases and if done fairly. HOWEVER, as mentioned it's through local governments which are more commonly corrupt that say state or national governments. Scary

is this where they can like force you to sell your land to them so they can sell it to a privatly owned business like if a wall mart wanted to build a franchise in my neighborhood, they would make us all sell to them for shitty money and then they sell to wall mart?

I think its fucking ridicilious, No one should have the power to destroy the lives of people in such a drastic way. But then again, In Canada we dont have the right to own land. The government can legaly take our land, which we paid for and worked hard for, at any time.

sometimes the land is put to good use tho. Would you have any objection if ur land was needed to save the country? this happened in like, 1942 43 with the japanese people on the west coast. The government moved them out of their homes, took their land, and were put in camps based on millitary urgency. now, i dont know if i believe in that or not but i love FDR so i dont argue. this was a huge scandal back during herbert hoovers time as pres i think. the teapot dome scandal happened when a member of hoovers cabinet seized us navy oil lands and illegally sold them to private businesses. thats a lil diff but i suppose id be pissed if they took my land. let me know if my facts are wrong on the teapot domw scandal.

You're a fucking idiot if you think relocating Japanese-Americans helped "save our country". That's probably the most deplorable thing the US government did in the 20th century.

what i dont like with land shit, is how the treehuggers and the goverment (hell...whats the difference) set aside all this land, for nature? i mean what the fuck is that? i am not saying to bulldoze everything, a little land here and a little land there is cool, but they are taking billions of acres away and no one can even walk on them? its just wasting land, trees are trees, we can grow new ones.

^That is kind of a different issue from the "Iminent Domain" issue being discussed, but because I am bored, I will discuss both...

First off, the iminent domain issue has to do with the government (normally on a local level) coming in and forcing property owners to sell their land for the greater good. This is crap as far as I am concerned. Yes, I can think of an extreme case or two where this might be of necesity, but 99% of the time it is wrong. Land is something tied to family history, it is wrong to take it away becuase you think you know better.
Secondly, about the whole conservation of wilderness issue, I am huge supporter. Once wilderness is gone, it is gone. We aren't talking trees here, but fragile ecosystems that will NEVER be replaced for thousands of years if they are touched. New devolopments normally turn to crap after about 20 years. Nothing is worth destroying real wilderness. It is priceless. Put your strip mall in shitty suburban new york, most of the east coast is almost too far gone already, but stay out of the little bit of heaven left in some parts of the world. (Montana, BC, Parts of Colorado, Alaska, and Alberta to name a few places with the said wilderness still intact or intact to some extent)

haha right on your a rubublican!!, yeah i hate development out by my house, all there is is fucking developments and traffic and all this extra shit. it used to be farm fields and forrests and now its dirt mounds and machines. i am not saying destroy nature, i know its priceless, and we need it, but i think we are just setting aside a little to much land for nature. billions of acres that could be used for recreation (cough *dirtbiking* cough) are just collecting dust. and its not like dirtbikers are going out and distroying shit and polluting everything, the blue ribbon collilation (sp) is working with manufacturers (sp, i dont even care anymore haha) to reduce pollution in dirtbikes and all other polluting recreational items. not only pysical pollution but noise pollution too, cali has like a 98 decible maximum for sound out of the exhaust. bottom line, is we are striding in the right direction to keeping nature alive, so i think we should get some nature back for everyone to enjoy.
