How do you think ancient civilizations learned....

how the hell did ancient civilizations like the Mayans and Aztecs know soo much. They had calendars and math and shit. They also had really advanced building styles and ways of thinking. Who the hell taught them to do this shit.
there are so many ways to see this. One way is that aliens could have come down and taught them. Records from Mayan writings have said that men from space guided them. Another explanation is that people from the modern earth mastered time travel and went back in time to teach them. And other ppl argue that Ancient people from atlantis taught them. IF that were true, who then taught the atlanteans? Soo many ways to think of it.

Well, every society has geniouses and very intelligent people. They probably looked at the stars and seasons, observed patterns, and figured it out themselves. Don't forget, these civilizations didn't just spring up overnight; they has hundreds, if not thousands of years to develop and learn these things.
Look at how far we've come in the past 100 years, we've gone from horse drawn carriages and steam engines to manned space flight and 400 mph mag-lev trains.

Advanced civilizations are completely capable of developing without the help of aliens or people from the future. Though those concepts may be interesting to think about, the probabilities favor intellectual development.
The way you wrote that you make sound like South American (and all non European cultures) were incapable of birthing complex thoughts. Not all intelligence came out of Europe. I don't know if you have that mental bias, but if you do, erase it.

What mayan writtings? There is only one codex (or mayan book) left in existance after nazi germanys book burnings. They others were never translated because we didnt understand their written language till the 70's, and even then we understood less than 30% of it. The one we do have is just a history of kings. The writting on the walls of their monuments just documents Battels, Family histories, Astrological events and had calanders (very accurate ones). Please tell me where you came across the information that they have written "we had help from aliens" or something to that effect.
And alot of people have the wrong Idea about the Mayans too. They wernt a rational society of intellegent people who were peicefull and more of less happy (An idea created during the Victorian erra, where people tried as hard as they could to seperate them selves from their irrational sides). They were a vicious war like people who fought against their neighbours all of the time. They also had some pretty disturbing bloodletting rituals which included peirching the shaft of the penis and pulling stems of thron bushes threw the holes. Women would do the same to their toungs. They also did alot of shrooms then went to visit (physicaly) their dead anscestors and talk to them. It woudlnt be a far trip because you kept your dead family members in your house with you.
I would be really intreseted too see more about this "Batterie" too. But please, let me know where you found this stuff about Aliens.

what i had meant was "they wernt a rational society comprised only of intellegent and educated people, peacfull in nature and happy" Which is how they were first thought of when their ruins were discovered, mostly because we couldnt read their writting. I forget who, but I think he was a priest who was working on the excovations, said that the strang symbols had no inherant meaning and were just jargon. He was the one who begain the idea of a peacefull people.
But no, I didnt mean to draw a connection between Rational behaviour and peaceful nature.

are you talking about the batteries made from chemical reactions between minerals and stuff? I saw some stuff on TV about them and this guy made a bunch and they last pretty much forever. You'd think that they would be more popular. They probably don't actually work.

I figure they were just hard working like the asians and didn't spend all of their time in war like the rest of the world did and, therefore, had figured everything out before the rest of society stopped kiling each other and started exploring and learning. But then the rest of the world killed them off and stole their knowledge and then learned to work together to build the interdependant society we have today.

one of the only "batteries" ever found was found in a wut u could call a witch doctors home and only put out a small amount of current when it was in use. barely enuff for any sort of light. its basic but still worked in a sense.

I am fascinated by the evolution of ancient societies, especially the ones that mysteriously disapeared (there was one in particular in the south pacific, they had buildings on an island that rivaled the great pyrimid as far as mass of stone moved and put in place. I saw it on the history channel, but have since forgotten). I often wonder if somebody will be digging up the remnants of overpasses and skyscrapers of even school busses in 5,000 or 10,000 years wondering how we were so advanced or lack there of. What would the world be like if there was some catostrophy like nuclear holocast or a meteor or something that wiped out most of the population and society had to start all over again? How long would it take to get back to this point if you start with nothing but basic instinct, or would technology go in a different direction and never get back to anything similar? I love to think about that stuff, and it would be cool to investigate historical mysteries like the north american stoneheng (somewhere in new england, I think it is New Hampshire). An ancient society (not native americans) built this structure that lines up perfectly with astronomical things like the placement of the sun in the winter/summer solstice, etc.) It is just amazing to think about that.

just imagine if atlantis was really real and Socrates was telling the truth in his writings. According to him, Atlantis was developed beyond anyones imagination. They supposidly had space travel mastered and had advanced submarines and recieved their power directly from the sun.
