Really considering going in. You get 1500 for the 6 weeks in training, plus more depending on what technical field i want to go into. Plus, depending on what field i go into i can be sure of staying out of direct combat situations. I'm really tempted. My mom's going to be furious.

They probably tell most people that they'll be able to stay out of the way of combat. It's like when they say "two weekends a month, one week a year." If you're at war, you'll probly at one point or another be in combat. Make sure you ask about the differences between war times and times of peace.

warning, the thing is i really will stay out of direct combat. I might push a button somewhere and kill someone, but i won't be in there with a m-16 shooting it up though. I'm going in to be technically trained if i do, they don't want to waste months of training.

yo thats great man. im a jr and my major goal in life is to go to west point. i have a lot of respect for pple in the military. if u wanna be in the military but combat doesnt seem like its right for u, air force is the way to go. in this war they are 30 000 feet up and out of harms way. but good luck whatever you choose

If i was gonna be in the military i would deffinetly pick the air force. You have the least risk of dieing probably and if you are asked to go fight and you can do some serious damage

listen dude, i went for an army reserve meeting once back in high school and i think theres something that you really should keep in mind. the whole process is ridiculously manipulative, they are going to entice you with every possible attractive feature and tell you nothing about any aspect that's actually negative. so fucking be careful, do your research find out about the other side. because once you're in, you're in - and for a while too.

Well that's good that you won't be in immediate danger, but don't you have a problem with pressing a button that would be taking somebody's life?

If you do man, Big ups to you. I am kinda in the same boat, being Junior in High School, my GPA sucks, its like 2.3, but my SAT's were like 1850, and my IQ is around 138 (I took the real test at the hospital) So obviously i just didn't do any of the work, and no colleges will accept me. I'm thinking of joining the Air Force, because it is the least dangerous, and i really want to help, where most people won't. Allin all, for someone like me, it is a good start, and a good way to make up for things i fucked up on. Maybe I'm biased, because my entire family has been in every war since war WWII and it got them a pretty good Life. My Grandpa made it to full colonel in the army, and then the Army gave my dad a really good education, he was a Helicopter Mechanic, and now he's at boeing, Making about 90k per year. And he barely graduated high school, same situation as me.

I got a letter from Annapolis the other day. That shit is insanely intense. If I were to go in though I'd pick Air Force, but my eyes are bad so no go. And itd be too hard

yea man, good luck.
i went to my school counselor in 9th grade, and she was like, 'you know, the armed forces really like people like you... would you ever think about joining the air force academy?' i was like 'i guess maybe...' and she was like 'GREAT! now, allow me to call a sargent major at the air force academy about you, give him your phone number, adress, and all that stuff so that he can call you at home and bug you a lot, and send you like 4 packets in the mail! ok, here he is on the phone.'
me- "hello?"
him- "him, im sargent mallory. JOIN! sorry, sorry, i got something in my throat. JOIN!"
that goes on for some time, and i swear, they wanted me to sign up right there! goddam...
down a season...

if you sign up, you'll probably be in iraq less than a month after you're all trained. my buddy is a marine, he said that's pretty much what all new recruits are doing.
but on the other hand, it's pretty good pay...

They will try to manipulate and mislead, so be cautious. If he tells you that you can be a pilot, he's probably full of shit. Expect to get called up if you join the reserves, they are absolutely desperate for people now. Air force is definitely the way to go if you decide to join though.

theres almost zero chance he'll be in any danger, if hes in iraq theres always that risk, but no one in the air force is on the front lines there shooting a gun or anything so anyways good luck

I'll still make 20 grand a year if i go into combat, and it's the reserves, and if i went in it would be for medic or computers.

well you finally made a thread that doesn't have to do with girls/sex/sex with girls.... but with that in mind, i will point out to you, if you get thrown out where ever in the air force you will not be getting poon.

aah I can just imagine you up on the hill tried to score with a ski chick "shit baby, my country needs me" and then you pull out a big friggin M-16 and ski off and you can hear her voice in the backround saying "but I ws about to give you my poon like Katesd saaaidd!!!" and you go off a 49575787487 ft. cliff and deploy a parachute and you turn into a transformer and your robot boots fly you to Ayerack and you start shootin sand monkeys. Awsome. Now THAT I can imagine.

dude if you are thinking of going into the reserve or national guard air force is the way to go. Its mostly ground troops getting called over to Iraq... my dad has friends in the air national guard and reserve and they rarely get called into anything. Im considering doing air national guard after i graduate
