Ok so its a 300 watt amp i used 8 gauge power wire hooked it up to the positive of the batterry installed a 35amp fuse then ran it throught the firewall under the carpett into the back. I hooked up the remote and ground and the speaker(15inch gemini)

the only things i can think of now that i have been doing nothing but think about how it didn't since it got dark is that maybe i need to sand some paint off of the metal that the ground is on or maybe i need bigger power wire. there could be a short some where

um, its sounds like u did most of it right, cause all u need is the power to get from the batt to the amp, maybe check to see if all ur components are working

where did you tie the remote lead in ?

what kind of amp is it? are there any lights coming on in the amp?

1. make sure your fuse is still intact, and unplug the battery and ground wires from the amp (leave them connected to the battery and to the ground point, which should be scraped as bare as possible). ok, now (be careful!!!) take both bare ends of the wires and gently tap them against each other to see if they spark. if they spark when you touch them together, you know your battery/ground circuit is ok. if there is no spark, you either a) have a bad ground connection, b) your connection in your fuse holder is fucked (had it happen to me before, took me forever to troubleshoot) or c) you didn't hook the battery wire up to your battery right.

2. make sure your remote lead to the amp is tied in to the remote lead from the deck. if the deck comes on but the amp doesn't, it isn't your remote lead.

3. make sure your RCA's are plugged in to the right spot and plugged in all the way, sometimes amps will shut off if only one side is plugged in

if the battery and ground wires spark, and the remote lead is ok, and your RCA's are plugged in and it still doesn't work, go get a new amp.

Wire is fine. You probably need to get a better grd. Be careful too, since youre running it off the battery... if you dont have a complete circuit, you can drain your battery in a matter of hours. Check your ground. Check your internal fuse box too... mighta blown something there. Make sure your remote is the right wire too. Some wiring guides can be very incorrect. Hook your reader up to it, and youll know for sure.

I dont know much about car steros but maybe it isnt powerful enough to run the speaker?

AND another thing... you might need a capacitor, especially if your headlights dim when the bass hits. Thatll help a lot of things, and probably solve your problem if you try everything else. IF that doesnt work. Youll probably either A. Need to get a new alternator, or B. Get a new, lower powered amp.

first off it sounds like there is some good advice here. Definatley improve your ground connection, its important this is good (I always tied into a bolt that attached to the frame). if your amp is not turning on, with a proper circuit (test it with a test light to make sure the power is live and the ground is grounded), check your remote. Make sure that the connections on your remote are good and that you are tied in to a switch power supply (if you cannot properly tie into the stock radio power supply, try tapping into something like the power windows (if you have em) or the ignition itself. Just be cautious not to hard wire it (constantly on), its easy to drain the life out of your battery if this is the case.

Now, if the amp is turning on, but you are getting no sound make sure the sub is wired properly, are you bridging the amp, did you do it right? Also, figure out what your ohm load is (sub, dual voice coils? and wired in parralel or series), make sure your amp can handle the ohm load. Also, remember that you only need about 1/3 of the rms of the sub to make it work, but if you are wired up wrong (like dual 8 ohm coils wired to 16 ohms) your amp is most likely putting out very little power.

The idea of a cap also came up. General rule of thumb used to be 1.0 farad per 1000 watts, however you don't really need it unless your alternator is crap. All a cap is going to do is try to add a little bit of juice to the power that the amp is drawing (so as to try not to force the alt to work harder). However at 300 watts, I highly doubt there really is a need for a cap (but there might be depending on how much bass there is).

the rms rating on the sub and amp might not be correct and im pretty sure that your amp isnt powerful enough, but just cheak all your connectiongs and make sure none of your fuses popped or any thing

^the power of the amp has nothing to do with it not working. a 300 watt amp barely puts a dent in any cars electrical system. i had two amps going at over 1200 watts in a car with the puniest alternator in existance. you definitely don't need a cap for a 300 watt amp either, but it couldn't hurt.

and yeah like manus said, if you can't tie the remote into the deck, make sure you don't tie it in where it will drain.....here's a funny story from an old car stereo i used to have: the remote lead was tied into somewhere (i don't even remember), and something messed up, like a short, and after that, if i didn't press the e-brake in one notch to make the "brake" light come on, the sub would play engine noise at full volume (think one rediculously loud bass tone just going and going until you pushed in the e-brake pedal)
