ok so there's this jeep for sale. It's practicly in perfect condition the tires only have 2,500 miles on them it has a mini lift new cd player a rack on top new transfer case and its a jeep cherokee country. but it has 150,000 miles on it because she drives about 45 miles to work everyday. she wants 5000 for it but i think i could talk her down to 4000 but my parents dont even think its worth that. This thing is spotless though, it has no rust no dents nothing. What would you do?

find a car your parents think is worth buying... find what the diffrences are and then explain how the jeep is better.

I’m a good persuasive talker, or id just bug them if all else fails
You know any one who would fix it up for free? i would just tell my parents that my cousins could fix it as reassurance.

your parents are right, no jeep with 150,000mi is worth $5,000- jeeps are unreliable shitbox's. hold off until you find something worth buying, looks can be decieving, u need somethign that can hold up

Find another car that you want just as much as the jeep, and tell your parents that you were wrong, and there were better cars out there. Show them the car and they will buy it even if it is more than the jeep. The key is to let them think they are all-knowing and you were wrong and they were right.

haha, dude, jeeps arnt civics. 150 thousand is like the end of its life. you might be able to drive it for like a year before shit starts goin seriously wrong. just cause its got a roof rack and a new cd player, doesnt mean its worth buying if you need to do a few thousand dollars or repair work once the engine dies.

right so if i could get it down to 2500 like someone said earlier i think it would be worth it. also theres this other jeep thats like 1000 some odd dollars and its like a piece of shit its a 92 while the one i was talkin bout earlier is a 96 but the 92 is so shitty that they didnt even bother to clean it up before they started to sell it like there are candy wrappers and toys and some metal post holder thing and some rugs and other random shit in it

I will admit you will find some jeeps with lots of problems, but my 98 grand cherokee with 150,000 is still running super strong, with no real issues. I am also running a 4 inch lift and 32's so that puts some adittional stress on it.
You all have to realize that a honda civic is not nearly as complicated as a jeep, therefore it is reliable. As a result though a civic has nowhere near the capablity of a jeep.

you guys cant knock jeeps. the 4.0L will run forever my uncles had 450xxx miles and he stop driving it because his foot went through thre fucking sheetmetal not b/c of the engine. My 4.0L in my ZJ has almost 200000 and i drive the shit out of it. but for about 5000 and having about 150000 miles on it it better be at least a 95 if not a 96 or you are getting swrewed. What kind of lift and tires, and what size tires are on it too?
I'll drive it untill the wheels fall off, then I'll buy new wheels!

lifts dont do anything to the jeep if done correctly. i had a 8" lift on my old grand cherokeewith 37" MTR/S and it handled and rode better than stock. just cant corners as fast. If the jeep has been MAINTAINED PROPERLY it will easly surpass the 250000 mile mark.
I'll drive it untill the wheels fall off, then I'll buy new wheels!

my lifted wrangler preforms well on the road, but a lifted jeep isn't the kind of car you want to be driving all that much. i only use mine for city driving and fucking around offroad. never had any problems with anything on it, but a wiper fluid pump.

seems to me that jeeps are pretty quality cars... but 150,000 miles is a lot of miles. You'll just want to make sure it's never been in a major accident, because that will fuck with a car in ways you can't see.
$5000 is also a lot for a '96 with 150000 miles on it... what's the original value of this thing? I don't really know much about it, but I do know that my '95 Subaru Legacy with a completely new transmission (maybe 2 years old) is only worth like 2000 dollars, and that is a great car that hasn't given me any trouble in 2 years. Granted it was originally a cheap car, but I don't think it was less than half the original value of the jeep (I could be wrong, though)
The problem is that even with regular servicings, everything in the car is subject to wear and tear. If you're driving this thing hard, you might have an axle break on you or who knows what.

the dude selling it needs to understand that all of the lift components dont increase the selling price at all. granted he did use VERY high quality parts in his lift ect. offer him about 3500-4000 that is what it is worth. From my awesome knowledge of jeeps you want to check the wheel bearings and for gear wine b/c they may need service at that mileage soon.
check out naxja.com and jeepforums.com for all you cherokee questions. they are all really nice guys and will answer your questions unbiasedly unlike on here.
I'll drive it untill the wheels fall off, then I'll buy new wheels!
