I'm sorry but this pisses me off. I'm not able to compete in a Big Air at the end of the month, because girls arn't allowed. Or they told me there wasn't a ladies class. Anyways I just needed to express my anger.

i guess they have to keep men's and women's sections apart in competitions, but yea when there isnt a seperate event for women they should do it mixed.

I totally understand where you're coming from. Last season I hit up a bunch of big air and pipe competitions, but very few have had girls divisions. Sometimes they let you compete with the guys and sometimes you get to forerun and that's awesome. Sometimes you get told that 'the jump is too dangerous for girls' and that's where the bullshit begins. But the best you can do it get out there go in as many competitions as you can and show them that girls can rip. Sometimes just asking to hit the jump a few times in practice is enough to prove that you can safely compete with the boys and then you get your chance. Don't get discouraged, because it's frustrating, but don't worry, it'll get better.

Good luck and keep on representing for the women.

yes, matt's answer to everything:violence.. ok psycho..anyways, whoever mommy is should be shot. look at any of the first xgames footie. they were throwing backflips and spins. nothing too huge. thats why we call this a progressing sport, its still in the making, and yeah the girls is a ways behind the guys, but thats the same as it is in any snowboarding competition too.

Grete is a real amazing skier. Me an her became really good friends at camp an she was the best girl at camp an better then at least 3/4 of the guys there. they should let her compete so she can show up the guys

Just give them shit and bitch and complain until they let you in. Or even a petition, I know it sounds cheesy, but it'd probably work. Or, even better, find a bunch of girls around your area that would compete and ask them to make a girls class.

yeah grete, just be patient and ask them to let you hit the jump in practice.. or compete against the guys. i competed against the guys most of last season.. but here everyone was giving me props for competing. not telling me i couldnt

Grete, don't give up...I can understand why you're angry...to tell a girl that she can't compete because there are no other other girls is complete idiocy...Did you ask if you could forerun? That would at least let people know that there are girls out there who can really rip..and maybe it would encourage other girls to compete in the future...

Just go and talk to them. It might be hard, but I bet you could do it. Maybe they could follow you through the park showing that you can rip. If all else fails just torch the lodge (j/K) but actually tell them to fuck themselves. GOOD LUCK!

I totally agree with all this, there is only 1 comp in Australia that girls could compete in -
... but it wasn't because the organisers didn't allow it, it was simply because there weren,t enough other girls to compete against.
I called up the organisers of a big air in NZ and asked if I could enter, and they said sure I could - if I could find other girls that were willing to go in it.
It will get bigger in time.

Suitable for ages 5+.

Just go to this comp and compete with the guys. It'll only make you better a better skier in the end. All last season I was only in 1 comp that actually had a girls category. The bigger the competition, the more likely it is there will be a girls category. I don't think any orgaziners will ban you from competing with the guys totally.

Well.. wait, Wasnt there a bill passed to combat shit like this... I believe its called Title Nine.. (hell, k2's T:Nine series of skis is named after that bill)

Bring that up, I think they either have to let you compete or at least provide an equal division for women.

That's total BS and people who would not allow you into a comp have no reason putting on a comp for newschool skiing in the first place. The idea of it was to get back to being free.. accept everyone and everything or go back to having your head in your ass and being ignorant about whats going on

but in all seriousness, girls should be able to join the men category if they like. if there aren't enough girls to form their own category, the organizer can hardly be held responsible for lack of participants. get your friends together and prove that there is a demand for a female category. bitching leads to more bitching, action leads to more action. which gets something accomplished?

just go huck yourself of the jump. I never thought about the T:nines name before. that is actually a sweet way to name a ski. If you are going to use title nine in your argument, make sure you know it and are not just making stuff up. if any of them know about it and you lie you've got no chance then.

Ok. This is the base for Title IX

No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.

So yeah, I'm afraid it doesn't cover your case. However, I'm sure there are other equal rights clauses or protections in your state that should allow you to compete. IANAL(I am not a lawyer), but I'm sure there has to be SOME way to get into that comp without poaching the jump.

I'd check to see if Norway has similar laws.. most countries beat the US to introduce a title 9 type law anyways, I THINK.. my cousin was doing a report on it, and he mentioned that, just run a google search on it.

The reason alot of organizers are tentative about chicks competing in big air is that 99% of chicks can't hang with the boys. I watched a big air event in steamboat last year that two of my friends weren't able to compete because they filled up and the two chicks were a joke. It was a nationally televised event and one girl did a crotch grab and the other did a mute grab. If you are in that 1% that can hang with the boys you have to be that much better and not finish dead last.
