hot damn! getboards wants that much for o5 skis? are they nuts? ok son, heres the deal. how tall are you? iok, now add about an inch (for ski boots), and convert that to cm. i for example, am exactly 176 cm tall. i ski 180s. head hight is the only way to go. dont think ill go shorter cause its easier- that couldnt be farther from the truth. both of those skis are light, so any additionalweight of goin longer will be very minimal. longer skis are important for park, becuase they are faster (more base, less friction), more stable on landings, and everywhere else, spin smoother, twin tips ski shorter than normal skis, cause you are centermounted, and have less surface area (the turned up tail), and easier to ollie/butter im telling you this, cause this is a very common misconception with people just getting into the sport.
ok, so, now, onto those skis. STLs are a really fun ski, but thy are a jib ski, and thats about it. they ski switch beautifully, and are really fun. they arnt as solid on jumps due to thier soft flex, but they are stiffer underfoot than at the tips, so they feel more solid while your skiing them then when you flex them. but they are great skis, the PTEX sidewalls are a great plus (you probably wont notice, but they are alot lighter than ABS). and pricewise on those, snag a new pair off ebay, and dont pay more than 200.
Chronics are solid. tankaskier, your dead wrong. lines USED to break alot, but theyve gotten thier shit together, and theey are some of the burliest skis made. LINE cores are WAY Strong, and will hold thier profile for a LONG ltime (the first gen. STLS loose thier camber quickly). but the line is much stiffer, and is a much better ski for all mountain, and bigger jumps. it still kills rails.
so, the STL is a better jib ski, but its pretty specific to that use. the Chrinic is a great all around ski, and will hold up the the abuse someone learning will throw at it.
some other great choices: k2 public enemies, armada ar5s, line mike nicks, Rossi Scratches. and oh yeah, dont worry about spending a little more money on a quality setup, cause nothing sucks more than progressing beyond the limits of your ski, and by the end of the year you havee to buy a whole new setup to replace the skis that are too crappy for you. and for bindings, the only way to go is LOOK p12s, or P10s if your smaller. not the new PX bindings, the older ones. these can be found on ebay or on clearnce in shops for 120-180 dollars. any more Questions, feel free to ask
