University of Puget Sound, but i've lived in Boulder all my life. I would have gone to CU if I wasn't from here. my high school is about a football field away from CU and i just had to leave.

UPS in the middle of nowhere? it is in the middle of a city of 250,000+. Everything 20 miles to the south and 50 miles to the North is completely developed. Tacoma is the second biggest city in the state, behind Seattle. So, i think your confused...

anyway, crystal mountain is 1 hour 15 minutes and it is so much sicker than everything in CO, exclusing silverton. It is unbelieveable, but it doesn't have a park, which doesn't matter to me, but does to some. The summit at Snowqualmie, which has a sick park, is 1 hour 20 minutes, stevens pass is 2hour 30 minutes, Mt Baker is 3 Hours 15 Minutes, Whistler is 6 hours, Hood is 3 hours 30 minutes.

also, i've lived in Boulder my whole life and had to leave as soon as i could. I love Boulder, but it is a ridiculous place to live. I would have probably gone to CU if i lived elsewhere.

I know its in tacoma, it just seemed so dead around the surrounding campus area. I live in denver now, not even right in the city and its just so much more active.

the 6th Ave. district is 5 blocks, Proctor district is 7 block, old town is about 12 blocks, so there are lots of places to go. Downtown is 5 minutes by car.

Around campus it is almost all student housing so there are tons of parties. Having a car, though, which freshman can have and is free, makes it much better. being in tacoma is ok. its kind of ghetto, but there is some stuff to do. being 25 minutes from seattle is awesome.

I donno, i guess it is what you make of it. We spent lots of time in Seattle, some in Portland, trips to Vancouver, skied as much as we could. There were always parties in the houses around campus so it seemed like there was always stuff to do. Denver is sicker than Tacoma, by far, but I like Portland, Vancouver, and Seattle all more than Denver, so the trade off is fine with me. The UPS campus itself is awesome and you spend most of your time on it, so i enjoy that, but what you have access to outside of tacoma is awesome.

So, the sum that all up....Tacoma is ok, lots of parties, but that is about it. Denver would be sick, but being so close to all the sick cities in the PNW is, in my opinion, sicker.

i love DU - definetly gotta deal with some rich kids and frat boys, but you can find really good people and lots of good friends to ride with. Plus, compared to most Colorado schools, no offense to boulder, but the academics are pretty hard to beat.

Sorry, but saying DU academics are better than other schools is CO is a joke. CU has better acedemics than DU and Colorado College has a FAR better acedemic program than DU. CC is just in Colorado Springs...suck it sucks. CU and CC both have higher admission standards than DU as well. DU is more comparable to CSU.

ya but i think du has a better academic layout overall, things such as only 20 ppl per class, every class is wired for laptop internet connection for every student, online notes for every course, and no schools on friday cmon

first, CC has a similar number of students per class, but...
Im confused how laptop connections and small class room size mean anything. CU and CC have a higher standard of education. better teachers and higher standards. No school on fridays?! how does not having school having anything to do with academics? Online notes? yeah, they are nice, but why do they have to provide them for there students? cant they do the reading and pay attention in class? it doesnt seem like they expect much from their students.

Im not saying DU is bad. Far from it. It is a good school. But as far as academics are concerned, CU and CC are both superior to DU.

Granted, though, you get out of college what you put in. Someone who actually cares about learning will get a much better education at DU than someone at CC or CU (probably would be CU) who just wants to ski, drink, and fuck all the time. College is all about what effort you put in. Taking that into account, the amount of effort needed to do well at CC is greater than it is at DU. It is that simple. This is true for some programs at CU (enginerring, biology, journalism, architechture). The only school at DU that is academically better than anything at CU or CC is the Business school, which is one of the best in the country. Other than that, the academic standards and reputations of both CC and CU is better the DU.

Honestly comparing each school is odd, CSU has a nationaly renowned Vet school, DUs business school is fairly good, and basically the best law program in colorado, CC is a good school for certain subjects. Mines is probably the best school for applied science and economics, and CU is a good decent engineering schools as well. I am open to discuss what I know of the colleges so if you PM me We can chat

yeah it depends on what you want to study. if you want to do vet tech or construction management CSU has the BEST of those two programs in the state for sure. but they don't even have an architecture program, and the art program is a joke on a good day

i agree with logchucker. i go to DU and find myself disagreeing with a lot of what is said on this thread. of course im partial to DU and im a business student.
But there is a lot of different comparisons- like someone already said. each school excells in different areas. for instance, if i was an engineer, i would not go to du.
each school is very good in its own right. the other issue is admissions standards. I cant really speak for CU or CSU or CC but i do know that DUs acceptance rate has dropped significantly in the last 3 years. I work with the admissions department and the chancellors office and they have been struggling to keep the freshman classes down because so many kids will come to DU when accepted (generally speaking from what they admin is telling me).
As far as general education goes- you really cannot go wrong between CU, CC, and DU- all good places

yeah i'm at CU for engineering and I think its top 20 in the nation for public schools and engineering. Its a pretty good program, and you can't hang around if you slack real badly. 3 of my good friends have taken 'vacations' from engineering... that is academic probation -> suspension.

logchucker's right about the different areas of concentration being better at each school. I'm a digital media studies major and art minor at DU so I'm partial to most of their academics although I can say that a lot of their gen ed classes are a joke if you attended a good high school.

AHAHAHA Tacoma sucks.

In the past 3 weeks the following has happened Tacoma:

- While eating at deli with parents, cut up woman on meth comes out of nowhere screaming for help. Someone roughed her up, cut her face and chest, and just left her. This was at noon....

- Shooting at Costco, a place I'm at every few weeks. I was there the day before with my parents.

- Multiple robberies around UPS campus b little middle schoolers who think they are thugs. They've been doing it with knives...and apparently have guns as well. I ran into them at 7-11 on shrooms and thought they were the funniest thing I've ever seen.

- Today, 6 people shoot at Tacoma Mall. We go there all the time. it is a 10 minute ride from campus. Guy walks in with an assult rifle and starts shooting, then takes 3 people hostage. My gf and I were going that day to get her mom a b-day present, but my roomate came in to tell me that wasn't happening.

Yeah, Tacoma is interesting.

But yeah, if you have questions left me know. Skiing here is awesome, school is hard, but it is a good time.

Where do you live? I thought Rock Springs, WY was the meth capital of the country.

When I drive from Boulder to Tacoma I go on 80 through WY. Stopping in Rock Springs is scary. It is so fucked up.

One of my friends parents is a Court Reporter and works in Rock Springs (commutes from Boulder every week - apparently Court Reporter jobs are tight) and I guess every case she does is a meth case.
