You're right, there are chutes in Smuggs backbowls that are just as steep, tight, and narrow as the Black Hole (trip black diamond). But to call it overrated may be much. It's a super tech trail and you have to be on every single turn or you'll be eating tree bark. I think we should get rid of the shapes all together. It should be Easy, Moderate, Hard, and Grab-Your-Balls-And-Hold-On-Tight.

I've never seen a triple but I've seen evtreme or stuff like that. The propblem is that the rating are relative to the resort. Thats why a black diamond at jacksons hole is gonna make a black diamond at some local shithole look like the bunny hill

Absolutely...I went to college in up-state NY and the black diamonds at those hills were laughable.

The Black Hole is the biggest joke ever. I skied that when I was about 10. I would say that liftline is harder than it.

Madonna liftline is crazy. But this is what makes Black hole so hard...the trees. I mean come on, if you fall in there while going even somewhat fast, your chances of busting your grill is pretty high. And seeing that Black hole is on the same pitch as Madonna liftline, so the steepness is the same, black hole is about a quarter (if not less) as wide as liftline, and oh yeah, barely enough room to get your skis through the trees.....

I think that the black hole is slightly less steep than lift line depending on the line. but lift line has so many rocks and drops, that it might as well be as tight as the black hole.

two. it is all relative, i havent been on anything lately that scares me, including the doubles at big mtn, which are moderately difficult, from my perspective. they do have the orange oval that indicates park terrain. i wonder how many orange ovals they have at big bear

yesterday for the first time in whistler I backed out of a run that wasnt inbounds, but if it was it should be rated triple black diamond for sure, its a cornice drop to sketchy 5 feet wide really steep chute(ridge between top of harmony chair and the saddle), its doable but I didnt want to take the risk to fall and get really hurt... Well now I regret not having tried it, so theres something challenging I gotta do next season...

thers a 3-diamond at smuggs... ithe only reason they rated it that way is cause it didnt have any snow, just ice, and was a waterfall with rocks, trees and metal poles

yeah the only triple black i've seen is at smuggs, and it's laughable i remember skiing that on straight skis when i was like 10.

smuggs has the toughest terrain in the east. the chilcoot chutes are the most XTREME trail i have ever been on. but the triple black is legit at the bottom where it follows along the headwall of liftline. not many people hit that part. its nuts. if you have seen the headwall on madonna imagine that with a shiton of tight ass trees on it.

i hate that mountain so much. i went there one time and i was freezing fucking cold going up the 2 mph wooden rusty lift. All i had was my anorak and a fresh white tee undernigth and it was -20 or osmething. then the park was icey and shit and all the trails were covered with ice and rocks
