Ski Equipment : Who gives a shit?

No offence to everybody, i don't know about you, but it is summer and i have no idea why people are still posting shit in here. Personaly this forum would be great for disscusing how to fix your skis, or wax, or sell some equipment. What i do find stupid, is the what company is better tread or what ski is the best tread. Look let me give you some info, if you gave Tanner some old 1970 olin mark 4s, he would still be able to do the same shit that he does now. Surprised, the twin tip ski design has not changed in over 10 years now. Bindings nither, boots nither. It is all the same shit, just in better colours. You give any twin tip ski, and their performance will not change.

i disagree. you can't compare a pair of olins to most anything available today. and bindings have also changed (line for example), boots have also changed (better liners, softboots, my hotform liners).
lots of people wanna use this time that they arent skiing to help decide waht they want to get for summer camp or for next year. and why not. i love skiing, and i love talking skiing. and there's tons of posts and articles about waxing and repair, so just search for it.

yo man some people need to figure out what they want to get cause some people are new to the stuff. plus it helps the sport progress and more styles come out of it. if there was a section that said like "what to buy". then all that stuff would go there but u have a good idea with talkin more detailed stuff like repair and waxin.

Mattman that is just ignorant... true, the top athletes may still be able to rip shit on old skis, but not everyone is a top athlete. Ski technology has chaned significantly. think of different (eg progressive) flex patterns, carbon strips for pop, fatty edges, more durable construction and the like that are geared towards park and pipe. these advances have allowed people who aren't pros to have a more suffiecient tool to progress, and allowed pros to further push the limits

sry man but some twin tips are not the same some carve better than others and some are also better in pow it isnt jus all about park. plus if u buy in the summer for next year u usually get a better deal!

haha i find this soo funny, i like how people say boot and shit has changed. Look at the old look pivots ( circa 1980), and the new ones the design and technology has not changed. All this new technology does not affect your skiing no matter what level you are at i am sorry. Maybe flex, but nothing else, just the ablility to do butters. I rode my 1999 1080 vinny dorions, and got to try the Cronics and that was the only thing that was different was the flex, my riding did not improve. And i am not totally dissing out this forum.


But i am more concerned about what is on this site. People dissing out other people because they don't have lines, or Armadas. There is nothing wrong with salomon skis, or Head skis. I am just saying you don't need new planks every year, and most binders do the same thing no matter what design they are. So go ahead freak out, i don't care, i ski for the love or skiing, i don't just sit in the challet talking about next years 4frnts.

Look man, i am just not trying to diss out everything, but there are alot of people with brand new twin tips, and they are just in the rack not doing anything. I just hate how i have friends that rock the park man, but their shit brakes too much or they can't go switch because they don't have the right gear. Just going to tremblant and having kid going "Oh you have salomon skis, you suck." this is the wrong attitude. Plus this site has gotten soo soo stupid, i know how lat feels now.

Actually look at Grete, he skis are huge for her size, that is the way wider for stability on rails and landings, and long for speed and agility

If you gave Tanner those Olins you were talking about he would not be able to duplicate his skiing. For one he wouldn't want to. Don't get me wrong he would still be an amazing skier but don't try telling us he could do all his tricks.I have actually ridden on those skis and anything is not possible. You need more than a twin tipped two by four to stomp the shit.
But on the other hand I love skiing enough that I still would go out with even the crappiest of gear. (only if I had to)

It has nothing to do with the site at all , it is just a general comentary on the general state of skiing. If it keeps going the way it is going people, and the general public will just get fucking fed up. Seriously, alot of people are already fed of about the attitudes of the skiers, and many of the companies. And it is not as simple as turning your back away when someone says something stupid, or something morally wrong. Fed up is the word, and i am not the only one, and no i woun't let this community go down in fucking flames because people just want to ignore the stupid shit.

What company has expressed their unhappiness?

As any niche sport becomes mainstreamed, the things you are complaining about begin to happen. The same people everyone labels as "posers" begin to show up in internet forums as well. You are complaining about the few. Give the members of this site more credit. There are a lot of people on here who make genuine contributions to skiing. Maybe not with their skiing ability but with their love and knowledge of the sport and its equipment.

And face the simple fact, skiing has ALWAYS BEEN TRENDY. The clothing, equipment, hot resorts, and ideas of style change from year to year and everyone jumps on the bandwagon. This went on long before newschool skiing ever evolved. The culture isn't going to change just because we have invaded the terrain parks. Do I necessarily buy into it? No, but to each his own.

And your claim that the manufacturers are getting fed up is total bullshit. Everything that has you "fed up" is exactly what's driving this business. What manufacturer in their right mind would want skiers to stop believing that next year's skis are the newest great thing and just keep skiing on old skis. I don't think Tanner Hall wants to see kids stop giving a fuck about next year's armadas, poser or not, the man wants you to buy new skis.

i think you must just suck as a skier then, i went from the 1999 1080 vinnie's to the chronics and noticed a big difference in how they skied and how hard i could ski with them, thus steping up my skiing, i used the motherships for all mt ridding more but even on the days i just rode the chronics i noticed they held they own a lot better then my 1080 ever did. the Ski Equipment forum is a great place on the site, its actully about skiing, so a few post whores play around in it and little 14 year olds rip on every thing posted but besides that there is alot of good content in the forum. and btw you talking about leaving being a big deal like your lats is such a laugh, you've barly been around (this name atleast) and don't know what you are talking about when it comes to how the site "was". maybe if you knew about newschoolers back when it was a flash site you would know how it "was"

Who says i am such a newb, i think the best people are the people with the lowest post count, the people who just look and know that they don't have to say anything. And twin tips are twin tips, and i do very much stick with my guns on that one. They all have th same profile, the only difference is Cap, Sandwhich, or other construction.

And prettty much scratches and Armadas are pretty much the same thing, surprise. They are both made sandwhich constrution, the old ones had wood core. The new ones have a different core, but the construction remains the same.

And we schould stop the corporization while the sport is still. It is a bad thing, Capitalisum is a bad thing. When you get amalgamations of Rossi with quick, and Salomon with the other guys , well it is not good. Skiing schould stay the way it is, and it all be about the kids. Why do think more and more pro are going into the backcountry, because fucking shit hole congloms like Intrawest are making ski hill tourist shit holes.

You guys don't work in the industry then, i have instructed skiing, and new school skied and many different hills, and have been working in the industry. Ski companys don't give a shit about you. The only company that i saw that was even close to being the "ski drivin" company is 4FRNT. Their pros own large amount of stock in companys. And yes ski hills are getting worse because they are getting bought up by big fucking congloms. They take out the locals, buy up land, muscle people out of their homes and distroy local economies. They distroy lives so that they can put over priced hotels and shops and make large amounts of money off of the backs of non union workers who have no choice to work.

There are legions of differences in construction from one ski to another, pros are moving to the BC because of terrain, not to make a political statement, and if you can go win X-pipe on a pair of Made'ns I'll eat my house.

Ok, sure fine, say that i don't care. Wow your all right, and those big companies are not clear cutting animal reserves, or physically throwing people out of their houses, cause they need to build condos. Yes skiing is good for you now, we have the money, but what happens when new school skiing does not become profittable. Don't be controlled by a brand, and don't believe all the pros, they are people owned my companies. Make up your own minds on what skiing is to you, the future is coming, what you do will change its outcome.

there is a simple answer to this thread. During the winter you can actually go skiing and talk about your experiences. Now that it is summer, gear is one of the only things to talk about. So if you dont like this forum get the fuck out.
